Are the new model Spymodex actually filtered now?

Now i know you pointer veterans are going to say "oh no, here we go again", but bear with us- I'd just like to clear up a point, the "new 2008" range of spymodex claim to be guaranteed IR filtered.
So, I've bought one, claiming 300mW (still not convinced it's that much though). I went and collected it from the seller, who tested it in front of me on a Thorlabs meter, which read just over 300, at the time. I wanted to check its reliability, so I had took along my 50mW filtered greenie, and got him to test it for comparison. It read correctly.
Knowing that there's a lot of pointers out there chucking loads of IR out, I thought 'd try a little experiment. I dug out a few IR block filters that i have, and did a little match lighting test with and without a filter. I know this doesn't prove what power the pointer is, but it proves the power seems the same in both instances.

Watch the video HERE . Excuse Eastenders in the background!! :)

The ultimate test would be to do the test on another meter, but i as yet haven't found anyone near enough to me, or found one myself.

The IR from your laser could be pretty divergent so putting the IR filter in front of the laser and lighting a match most likely doesn't mean anything, it just means the green light coming from it is high enough to light a match. The real test would be to put and IR filter in front of the laser and test it on a meter.

You're right. Just needs to be put to rest, so others (esp. newcomers) can be assured whether or not these "2008" models are indeed safe or not from an IR leakage aspect.

Hmm, I think most people are worried about other things when buying from Spymodex, not so much having an IR filter or not ::)

No, we all know spymode is full of BS. YOu should see some of the fancily worded e-mails he's exchanged with me to try to fool the unknowing into believing their BS. They've been lying about using IR filters for years. Spymode is a pretty reliable way to hunt down the truth though: ask them a question and whatever they say, you know the opposite is true.

;D

shine your laser through some diet coke or vimto, then look towards the laser through the juice with your camera, the juice blocks most of the green and lets the IR pass, you could also shine it through your goggles and do the same, or if you have on of those little plastic things that blocks visible light and lets IR pass you can also use that, you can find them on almost anything that uses IR, old phones, old laptops, some TV remotes and TVs dvd players etc etc, its just a little black brown bit of plastic. I had one but I lost it. you could also use the film negative method.

Anyway the power probably isnt 300mW, but if theres an IR filter and it metered >300mW then thats because you picked it up yourself and the seller was pressured into giving you a good model.
