Hi guys ;) , My name is lewis and i live in ayrshire scotland and ive recently got interested in lasers and want to buy a first laser which will be capable of burning for my birthday which is coming up soon. i have found sites such as wicked lasers but they cost way to much, but now i found this site: www.yagoocn.com/sdp/375047/4/pl-1871652/0-938301.html

The jl-006 pointer looks exactly like a leadlight and the jl-010 looks similar to the cni-pgl lasers both of which i know are pot modable. Are the lasers the same as the expensive ones? Another thing is that they have the same laser but with powers ranging A LOT. Would there be a difference between them and should i get the one which i think is the best compromise between price and power(probably 150mW) or would it be possible to get the chepest and mod it to be just as powerful as the more expensive one?
Their prices are also very reasonable. this is the list i got when i contacted the seller:

Product name:Green Laser Pointer
Item no.JL-006,JL-009,JL-010,JL-021
Unit price
1-5MW USD17.00
10MW USD18.70
20MW USD27.80
30MW USD39.50
40MW USD48.50
50MW USD52.80
80MW USD113.90
100MW USD145.80
120MW USD 173.80
150MW USD197.70
200MW USD272.00

Product name:Green Laser Pointer
Item no.JL-019
Unit price:
100MW USD145.80
150MW USD197.70
200MW USD272.00
250MW US$393.70

Thanks alot for your help

edit- i also saw a similar laser on viasho . com does anyone know how good thse are- i emailed also to see how the price compares

A pot mod is twisting a screw inside the laser to make it more powerful

the only problem is that those are too expensive. Im looking for a laser with at least 125mW but i am only willing to pay around 100pounds (aprox$200) So im looking for a cheap chinese manufacturer of quality lasers, a cheaper laser which i can pot mod to that level or a second hand one :-/

pot modding will kill the laser. If you override the diode or put too much through it you will either fry the diode or ruin the crystal. Pot modding will work, but the laser will eventually die much faster than if you pay extra cash adn get a good laser.

and sorry timelord about forgetting laserglow, their a great company too!!!

does anyone know of any problems with these lasers or should they be fine. Also are the one which are 10mW etc the exact same but with only the pot resistance turned up so that i could simply mod a 10mW one to 150 etc or would it be better to buy the high power ones as they are.

Also since they are the same price which series would you suggest i get or do you think i shouldnt get any.

thanks

edit:does anyone know the price list for the cni manufacturers also i know that those lasers are good (cnilaser . com)

the screw is a potentiometer( ie a variable resistor) twisting it lowers its resistance so current through the laser is higher and therefore brighter.

back on topic not though lol ;)

It's the first time i've seen this company so if you do buy one, then please let us know your findings.
They look like CNI lasers redistributed through this company, so i think you'll be ok ;)

I dunno about that site, man....there are TONS of places to put your money towards a nicer laser...For right around the $200 mark, you can get into a nice Nova Laser - the X-85 is REALLY nice, and it'l last a good long time !

could you pot mod an alpha 65 and how much do you think id beable to get out of it without it lasting for a shorter time?
thanks

I have heard of people being able to modify those lasers, but I personally have never done it. Any time you do a pot mod, you are risking delivering more power to the diode than it can safely handle, and you risk burning it out pretty fast. I owuld advise against it, especially if you invest close to $200 on a laser - one wrong turn and you are out of luck :(
Bad idea - it would void the warranty, obviously. So if you were to do that - I would suggest it AFTER the warranty is gone, and you don't mind possibly killing it. Seriously - I understand your need for power, but you do risk the death of the diode any time you try to modify a laser.

SenKat speaks truth. He's a truth speaker. He is now currently working on two of my dead lasers that have been pot modified. One modification gave me no discernable power the other one got me booooko power but very very short diode life.
So000, generally speaking I'm never modifying anything expensive EVER! I'm currently waiting for my Phraug BFG and it will be left stock forever. could be here today!!
