I'm gonna have to look at the options to mount one to a picatinny rail an a laser being fragil would be a no go as being rugged is up there as a must for a rifle esp with recoil up to a .308.

If you ordered today he will get it to you by Friday. You would just need a simple red pointer for that. So you got the one from overfeel right?

Meant to ask, this type is one were I can push the button and it stay on, not the type that requires your to continuous press the button to be on, correct?

It has a rear button that stays on. This little bugger wil smoke black materials. Lots of ir so mind your eyes when using. The focus is a great feature too.

This is the one that got me addicted lol. I thought it was an awesome find for 27 much less 17. You will be pleasantly surprised of how powerful it is. But like I said, I know from guns you know safety, just don't underestimate how much damage this thing can do to your eyes.

I hear you, this may snow ball into other things. This is meant to be a laser needed for a Halloween costume for New Orleans. It's gonna to be on my head pointed at a 45 degree angle so it will be pointed in the sky the whole time. That's the reason I want the beam visible because the costume won't make sense without it.

Now, I'm looking at whats durable - very tight focus so that the dot stays tight out to 300 or so yards, compact and light. Would be a great addition to my fn scar rifles.

Yikes! Don't bend over. Or walk under a plane, or walk under a window, or a bridge, or look down , or tie your shoe , or,,,,,or,,,,,Orr.

And leaving it on will melt the lens. Duty cycle is about two min.

It won't be on the whole time just for a bit when I first get there, the event is outside and I'm actually after thinking about it I will need put it on the back of my head so it will be point 90 degrees in the air straight up. The idea is a full body shark costume with a laser on my head for "shark with lasers on their heads" from Austin powers.

Now I'm thinking laser from sources other than gun parts manufactors would be superior.

The gun sight lasers are bare bones. If you're after a quality laser for any application, you're in the right place. A member mehmling makes gun lasers of very high quality.

Costume is super funny

It's going to be an open lot with no trees or structures, unless a parachuter if over head and looking straight down all should be well.

Wow... this sounds like a really bad idea... using a ~100mW laser as a Halloween-costume prop

I hope everything went well?

From your first post I assumed it would be for pointing at stars or something like that...

The "sharks with lasers" would obviously be a great costume to a party, I really like it :gj:

But next time I'd advise you (and anyone else who reads this) to use a cheap 5mW laser (which will overheat less easily, and will obviously be less dangerous to others) and create more 'beam visibility' by smoking a cigar or anything else that puts some smoke in front of the laser. On a party where people will smoke inside you probably don't even have to do this, there's usually enough smoke already.

As to the obvious dangers of strapping a ~100mW laser to your head:
- The reflection only will hurt someones eyes pretty bad, direct beam can permanently blind people.
- Even if the party is outside, randomly pointing a laser beam like this into the sky isn't the 'brightest idea' because it may hit an airplane or anything else that's up there. Note that most authorities don't take it lightly if you do hit an airplane a.k.a. it may get you a prison sentence :( ...
- A laser like this will have a duty cycle so you'll probably have to turn it of every 2-3 minutes, which is not really ideal when you're at a party. You won't have to bother with a 5mW laser, you can probably leave it on all night or until the battery dies.

End of lecture... hope you had a great time ;) !!

Haha the idea is great but what I would've done is bought a cheap lightsaber prop. Safer, cheaper and much more visible.
