Finally got the DX 200mW module...

It measures 106mW's. I haven't been following this thread closely... Have you guys been pot modding these?

Jay --

As I posted before, mine came with everything loose including the LD pump diode ring. I had to put it back together including rotation of the LD pump to crystal orientation.
I maxed at about 143 mW.

DX took their sweet time (over a month), but I finally got a "5mW" module:

DealExtreme: $7.29 5mW 532nm Green Laser Module (3V 11.9mm)

I can confirm a 1/2W resistor on the driver. No red mark anywhere.

Initially measured at 14mW peak (w/IR).

The output seemed to taper off after about 300mA (from a 3V CR2) into the driver, so I left the pot at 280mA for 40mW peak output (34mW w/out IR).

Stable output, centered beam, good output from the start and settles down in < 10 seconds. No major issues to report here.

Oh...I can confirm the driver is reverse polarity protected too. :yh:

I think I'll try my luck with a couple more...

I got a <5mw green laser pointer on ebay which seems to be the same style as those on DX. When I tried to POT mod it I turned it as high as it could while it was turned on in order to observe just how high I could push it before it broke. Just as the potentiometer topped out the laser turned off and I had thought I had broken it. Fortunately due to having broken a few 808nm LDs I knew that the diode continues to produce light but gets much hotter after it loses it's ability to lase efficiently. So I turned the potentiometer back down and the laser still works!
Not only that but it's at least 2x as bright. In addition to this with new batteries the beam is visible on a cloudy day and the dot gets a little bit warm as well. In short don't just give up on "dead" modules. By the way does anyone have a clue how much power this outputs? On another note it is worth the effort to try putting a better diode in one of these devices when it breaks.

I have both DX & O-like 200mw modules
The O-like crystals are huge in comparison to these DX 200mw modules & the beams blatantly loads better
Killed my DX 200mw @ 380mA, which is allot less than my 3v O-like at factory preset current.

Im not bothered about the loss at that price & did not expect much after seeing that crystal.

but Id rather pay the extra for proper essembly & alignment & a nice crystal than get cheated on DX junk that's got glue splattered all over the lens to prevent adjustment.
BTW Deal Extreme block negetive reviews as I discovered so peeps keep buying no doubt.
