I hope that has not been said before.

New Nd:YVO4/PPLN crystals in a chip.

Interesting product, where all crystals are aligned on a chip, and with a very good efficiency.

Maybe make 532nm lasers can now be easier :D

I don't really care to sift through all the data, but it looks like maybe these are the same idea as hybrid crystals, where there is no KTP alignment necessary, but using a different doubler and a different method of bonding. Found this in wiki: Lithium niobate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Says it is better for medium to low powered frequency doubling, but these modules are stated as able to produce 0.5 and 1W. Maybe that is what medium to low power means, but that's pretty sweet.

I have one of these.

It IS pretty cool. And truly not difficult to get lasing in 532nm. In a rather interesting move, I actually took my cheapo "1W" 808nm DinoDirect pointer (from back when they sold high powered lasers) and was able to just point it (with a steady hand) at the mGreen module, and get 532nm out. It took some focusing, but it was actually possible to do ;)

One thing I CAN tell you, is that while it may not take alignment, it DOES take very precise positioning at the focal point of your pump diode. That's really tough to do. It also requires cooling. A heatsink (passive) may be enough.

That said, it does exactly what it says it does, and it's fun to play with for sure.

Given the price though (about $100), I think I would probably buy a $200 "300mW" FireDragon and extract the module, before I would spend $100 on another mGreen, money on a pump diode, and time on the process of getting everything aligned. Of course, if it's just about the experience, then this is a fun thing to own - and I'm glad I had that experience.
