New 500mW Green Laser Made With O-Like Module

Today I had the day off so I decided to spend a few hours making up this green laser. I had a module that I got from o-like a couple of years ago that needed a nicely machined and anodized aluminum host. This particular module requires 1 x 18650 to operate. This module was oddly shaped, with a large flange joint in the middle, but I was able to work with it. I machined the parts from 6061 aluminum bar stock and anodized them. The tailcap threads in, using a 0.75mm thread cut with the lathe. This laser has an IR filter installed and is focusable.

This first pic shows all the parts I made, as well as the battery and module. I thought that the trim ring looked nice gold colored with the green host.

This next pic shows the o-like module pressed into the heatsink. The module has a power light (blue led).

Here is the laser fully assembled.

Finally, here is a beamshot. The green is leaning against a 2W IR laser to stop it from rolling off the tape roll and desk. There was no need to use fog to get the beamshot with this laser. It is quite bright without any fog in the room.

Nice to see you back in business!
How have you been lately, by the way?

Is that the same module used in that previous high powered laser?

Nice host, though I don't prefer my hosts in non-intimidating colors :p You seem to have enough heatsinking power for 100% duty cycle there, am I right?

@ Eudaimonium : Hi. I've been doing well lately. Had a rotten cold for a while but ts finally going away. Yes, that's the same module with the IR filter and focusing lens that o-like had a couple of years back. These were good modules and were over spec. This host has very generous heatsinking abilities. That thick body only has one 18650 in it, so the wall thickness is around 9mm. Lots of metal. I wanted a green laser in a green host this time, but I still went with the gold anodize on the trim ring.

Here is another host style I've been playing with for use with the o-like laser modules for 9mm diodes.

Aesthetic beauty of brass but without it's tarnishing tendencies...

It looks GREAT!

Man it's good to have you back around here on the forums!

I do like brass, but unless I laquer it, the tarnishing problem is nasty. It is also heavy. I did make one brass host for a 100mW green pen module, and I silverplated it. Silver needs cleaning occasionally too, but it does look nice. I've been playing around a lot more with anodizing lately and I may put up a youtube video about anodizing and laser hosts. It is not too hard or expensive to do.
