Hey CDBEAM777 how's your build going?

By the way I answered CDBEAM777 thru a pm about the gitd o-rings but just in case someone else will like to know those are 17mm x 1.5mm gitd o-rings. In day light (when not glowing) they look blue. I got them a long time ago, really don't remember where I got them from, I know it was from outside the US.

Day job got in the way !!! PLP520 B1 installed in a CU module. I machined a small CU heat sink to contain the module and the driver....a SDX Boost on the back end !!. Very compact and round looking, nice Beam !!!

JR...I decided to use the Europium GITD powder from here....

https://unitednuclear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=28_45

I will mix with some clear epoxy.....and experiment !!

This GITD powder is da Schizz....glows like crazy....the Greens are the best....and the Aqua is a beautiful color !!! The Blue is also a very nice color !!

The Green is the brightest !! ( very, very bright )....the Aqua is very bright....not quite as bright as the Green....and the Blue also glows bright....slightly less than the Green or Aqua !!

This GITD powder is the best I have ever seen !!! We will see how easy it is to mix up...and apply !! The Cyprus EDC has four (4) grooves around the middle...and two (2) grooves on the back. Perhaps I will go with Green/Green/Aqua....and finally Blue !! Dunno !! Perhaps that would look too " Cha-Cha" ?? Dunno ??

Many choices.....The colors do look good side by side !!....Maybe...
Green/Aqua/Blue.....and finally....another Green !! I will apply one (1) ring at a time !!!

Anyway....Pics attached .......and see attached drawing of the machined CU heat sink !! Sorry B-Shot is so lame....My CP camera never get's a good beam shot!!

Will post an update with the rings are filled with the GITD powder/epoxy composite !!
Should be interesting !! Working with goooey epoxy is always such a treat !!!

Anyone have any suggestions on working with this stuff ?? IIRC....1:1 ratio.....and use a 5min clear epoxy !! Like I said....only one (1) ring at a time...then I will let that dry completely !!!....then move on to the next ring !!! I imagine.....I do NOT need to fill the ring completely...only enough to deploy a u channel down in the U shaped ring groove.
:eg::eg:

Now thinking...four (4) centre grooves with Green...Back two (2) grooves...one Aqua and one Blue ??

JR....Thanx for the original inspiration !!!

Thanx fur watch'in !!! ~Beam-out

OK...A little update regarding GITD powder. You all know....I am "a bit over the top" on things !!
I was not happy with the results of mixing epoxy with the GITD powder.

After mixing the powder....about 1 part powder to 1 part clear epoxy....I applied into the grooves....and just figured I would sand of the excess.

I rigged a mandrel....and thew it in the drill press. My drill press has a good speed control !!

SO...started to sand down....with 80 grit....and went to 220, then 400....then steel wool.

Problem is that friction heats up the epoxy....it then gets gooey....and partially melts......no mater what speed I ran !!!....and this melting action caused the GITD+ Epoxy amalgam to darken....and loose some glow !!!

Not acceptable !! I machined out the mess....and started over.

I had a 10 RPM asynchronous motor in the lab !! ( Doesn't everyone ??) and I decided to try this approach...

I rigged up a different mandrel to spin the barrel section at 10 RPM. I taped up the cone ends....and I then applied an coating of white auto touch-up paint to the grooves....as the piece was spinning....and wiped of the excess paint....just with an finger.

While the paint was still wet....I sprinkled the GITD powder to the wet paint remaining in the grooves. !! Worked perfect !! Used my finger to wipe of the excess and likely push down the GITD powder that did stick to the paint !!

This method uses the least amount of powder....and places the max concentration at the groove surface. I do not think any sanding will be necessary.

See the attached pic taken just after the GITD powder was applied and excess powder removed.

I relay this story...because others may try this method. Seems to work fine !!!
Have fun !!:eek: Now....back to work on another special project !!!

OH....Now it glows like crazy !!

:gj: and thanks for the tips . I'm working on another (little) project too. I'll post pictures soon.

Thanx JR !!! It is a mission and privilege to post my discoveries on LPF !!

As a side...I will be coating the GITD application with a layer of Auto Clear Coat paint....to protect and keep dirt off the imbedded GITD powder.

I have another idea...using the clear Acrylic focus ring concept presented by Tatermay... http://laserpointerforums.com/f45/1...gemus-host-w-acrylic-focus-adapter-95254.html..

How about a series of small bore holes....running parallel with the beam...filled with GITD powder....circling the beam axis of the focus ring ?? ...

OR...they make a coating/paint that responds to the 532nm line !!! The orbiting tubes could be filled with this paint....so that the beam ...light's'em up !!! Just a thought !! Beam Out.

Here is my other little project. It's not a laser but I wanted to show Sinner's awesome work. It goes in combo with my laser. Hope you guys like it.

By the way, since the flashlight is so powerful I wanted the laser to be powerful too so I changed the diode for a M462 running at 1.5A. Not the best beam specs but now it's brighter and a burner.

WOW...very impressive ! The inlay looks just perfect !!!! Great to see this host with even more evolved iterations of design. I assume the orbiting OD array are Tritium vials....but what is the lighting inside the unit ?? Additional Tritium vials ?? GITD is good....but....Tritium vials surly step things up a notch !!

You have given me an idea...Tritium vials... 22.5 x 3mm.......maybe eight (8) units...captured in an Acrylic Focus ring...circling and parallel with he beam axis ?? Has this been done B4....with Acrylic as the focus ring material ??

Regardless...a fitting addition to the Cyprus EDC host !!! Thanx for sharing !!

:beer::beer::beer: Beam Out

OH....and now sporting the beautiful 462 nm line....IMNSHO....the 462 and 520 line are the best for looks.......but then...purple is a beauty also ....and so is the 650 line !!!

Yes, those are tritium vials (13 in total), 10 on the outside and 3 inside the lense.

The glow (that is after you turn the flashlight off) is a GITD sticker that goes in between the lense and the led's.
