So my laser that i had for about 5 months now, i paid around 60$ for it on ebay just recently died.
It was showing very weak output power and alot of fluctuating between TEM00 and TEM 01. so i had this laser on for about 20 secs when it just went blank, so i checked the batteries *checks* they were at 2.80volts so plenty of power. Next i check all the connections and solder joints, and they were all fine. last thing i did was i turned it on, and i check for it with my camera and what do u know, thats all i saw was a very dim purplish color. this laser has served me many good times. I kinda over used this laser leaving it on at times for over 2-5 minutes, but still it should have around 5000 hours of life. the laser put out at least 70mw's for a 50mw pen pointer. Now its rendered completely useless.

RIP BUD !! you will never be forgotten. you served me well with your high powers of 532nm light and long battery life !!! you provided me with countless hours of fun, and taking awesome beam shots + pointing at planes. I will miss you alot !!!!

I was joking about the plane part ;)

Maybe now is the time to upgrade to an Aixiz green labby. Also, 2.8 volts is pretty low for battery voltage... Most AA or AAA cells are at least 1.5 volts each...

Maybe its time for a RPL 425 eh ?
and no, i used 1 CR123A Energizer e2 battery and it lasted like 1 month of use with this laser, and it started at 3volts, and kept lasing till it got to 2.8volts when the laser diode died i think.

Have you tried replacing the battery? :-/ Though, it's probably dead.

i think it was when i started using a CR123A which was actually around 3.04 volts, and it was a lot brighter then with 2 aaa 1.2v battery's.

So what is that circuit board on the back of the diode for? Certainly not a regulator.

If you see a purple color(with a camera of course) the 808nm pump diode still works. I'd say that your Nd:YVO4 crystal is probably loose or damaged and is not providing 1064nm required to drive the KTP... If I were you, I'd probably try repairing it since the laser is already broken.

yeah with my camera is seen a dim pinkish color on the lcd. so maybe i knocked the Crystals out of place. but i dont have a meter so i wont know if i get the most power out or not just by looking at it visually. But its better to try fixing it.

even if the diode died, it can still give of weak 808nm light.

Yeah im most sure that the diode died, because i had the laser mounted down to my desk and it was on, and it just started to flicker until it just quit :'(

If it was still lasing it should still produce a weak green... If it is simply a dead diode, you should be able to purchase one from senkat...

senkat dont sell them anymore, and this diode is weird shaped, its not a 5.6mm one.
