On my 3rd Krypton after 2 RMA's...

I'm on my 3rd Krypton this year after having to return 2 previous units.

Kryptons #1 and #2 were "within spec" and had +800mW averages over 5 minutes. However, both crapped out after only a few hours of total use.

Krypton #1's peak power dropped to <200mW and Krypton #2's warm-up time increased from a minute to over 3 minutes before it could maintain +750mW.

I recently received Krypton #3 and so far it has the highest peak out of the bunch with no annoying warm-up period...

I suspect the Krypton's duty cycle is NOT continuous like WL claims and leaving it on for over 5 minutes will drastically reduce its life span... Cyparagon ran a torture test on Krypton #1 before selling it to me by leaving it on for +20 minutes until the battery died and I ran several LPM tests on Krypton #2 that exceeded 5 minutes.

I'll be adhering to a 5 minute duty cycle for Krypton #3 and pray it doesn't crap out like the other ones! :toilet:

A duty cycle is only there to prevent overheating. It doesn't overheat in 20 minutes (or any time span), because the driver lowers diode current as it heats up above a certain point. 80F case temp if I remember correctly. Limiting your runs to 5 minutes won't help. This is going to be a crystal issue, for sure.

So WL must have used low quality crystals in the other 2 units since they only lasted a few hours each.

My current unit was supposedly manufactured this month... hopefully WL switched to higher quality crystals.

I'm not surprised at the WL quality...
I feel for you...

I hope you don't need to keep sending them
back indefinitely..

UPDATE:

Seems like 3rd time's the charm.

So far this unit has at least 4 hours of run time and it hasn't crapped out yet.

This is my most impressive LPM test to date...

At room temperature, the power unfortunately starts to drop after several minutes...

I can't really complain though... this type of output for a handheld greenie is impressive.

I have to give WL credit for finally sending me a quality Krypton.

I was afraid that I'd have to play the WL lotto several more times before getting a decent unit.

Glad to hear they finally found a Laser that at least seems to
work properly at 55 Deg F.

I'd be interested to see a graph of how it works at a normal
testing area temperature of 77 Deg F (25 Deg C )

77 °F is a bit warm for extended laser use if you ask me.

I'd guess my Krypton's power would quickly drop within 2 minutes due to the "Tesla Cooling" kicking in.

You give them to much credit... I will shave my mustache off right now if you can prove WL makes their own modules. I give them props for making their own driver and a sweet host modules are something they will never achieve however.
