hey guys,

I have heard of people popping balloons, lighting matches, and burning black plastic with their 50mW green lasers. I got a 100mW module from o-like.com and put it in a penstyle host and it wont do any of the fancy stuff...

So i am wondering: Is my module "sucky" or are the 50mW stories just not true? And do you think it is worth 43 dollars to upgrade to a 150mW module?

Hey... with a focused beam I can burn blk plastic with a 30mW red laser.. :
It all depends on how small you can concentrate the beam...

50 mW can pop a black balloon easily. It can burn black plastic with some work. It MAY be able to light a match through a mag glass.

The O-Like modules are known for really shitty divergence, that could be an issue as well.

Do you think (even with the divergence of a module) i could pop it with the sheer force of a 150mW one? Dark Horse has some pretty sweet heatsinks for leadlights so i might get one of those and a leadlight..

Its purely the divergence, try putting a magnifying glass in front of it....then it should have some nice burning power. Ive got the same module and experienced the same problem at first. Ive used it with a magnifying glass and haven't had a problem since.

No, he bought one of the o-like modules. Unless he got a faulty module, it should be more than ample power, in most cases with those modules they are putting out a significant more amount of power than stated according to Jayrob.

i had trouble with my dx true 100 divergence.its easily corrected though, you can add a nova laser lens on the end, or a wicked laser cap set. theyre great
