Well the RPL is the best HANDHELD consumer laser. But you have to keep in mind that the Hulk can be used for playing baseball in your spare time it's so massive! (3 C Batteries) And Jack at Optotonics was lucky enough to get an RPL in that was somewhere in the range of being classified as an RPL-430 or something close to that.

The biggest handheld is probably the herc. As said before, the thing is massive, but it is a handheld. Morepower's Herc peaks well over 600mW IIRC.

As I recall Laser Glow will occasionally have a Herc with more power than 400mw's but you need to ask them. It runs on 3 D cells...the thing is actually a portable lab laser. The head can be removed on the newer models and run off an AC adapter.

I'd rather go for a bit less power and get the RPL though. And I don't consider something that when you're trying to star point with it it gives you arm fatigue a "handheld" laser. ;)

As for a better deal I would go for the RPL for sure! Both are great form what I hear but the size of the RPL makes it much much more appealing. You can also email Optotronics and ask Jack what else he has around if you're looking to buy something.

As far as portability goes, you cannot beat the RPL's size for the amount of power it puts out ! Also, one thing to keep in mind, if you are on a budget, the owner of Optotronics, Jack - gives forum members a nice discount :)

Yeah, I agree. I guess it just depends on what one wants.....for me it would be a tough decision but I would probably lean towards an RPL. :p One thing for sure is both companies provide equal great customer support, so that is at least one thing one can take out of the equation when making a decision.

The new herc 400 I just got is the stongest visible one I've seen. I'm still playing with it. It's better than the 300 ( it did 355 ) I sent in for repair. I'll be doing a review soon.

I also have a >1watt ( ~1100mw ) 808 NIR pointer, also from laserglow. http://208.219.69.31/laser/hadespower.wmv
