Wow Alex, you will have a very envy worthy green in your collection. Have fun and stay safe. 800mW of 532 is bright enough. You should be able to see the beam in daylight with that.

Oh, and this is all you will see in a small room. :D

Re: The Monster is Arriving!

So,

Im jumping from <5mW's pointers to a 2.8W 532 monster so must be safe

-Alex

Yep, that's a bit of a jump, ( heee ) like jumping across the Grand Canyon. But is going to be one beautiful jump ! I'm on the edge on the seat waiting for the beam shots, got pop corn and goodies for the show! :) ~~~~edit, thinking I can move my recliner to the backyard what's direction should I be facing? :D

Re: The Monster is Arriving!

Ok guys, I've received the laser however I am in a little hole it seems. With the laser came the PSU-H-OEM unit system, and when I plugged it into the outlet, along with the laser into the PS nothing came out. There are 2 cables in the back above where it says "Trigger". A black one and a red one so Im guessing you need to apply 5V's there for the laser to work, but I don't have anything to apply voltage to.

I am thinking that to simply have a plug and play system I would need the PSU-H-FDA PSU which features a key and a "stop" button as pictures in the PDF. Thoughts? Below is the CNI website showing the different Power Supply's.

In the meantime, anything I can use with the cables to apply voltage? Even if I need to go to ACE and get something cheap. If not, I'll need to order a FDA PSU to simply avoid all this.

Thanks!
-Alex :)

Re: The Monster is Arriving!(Help Needed)

Alex,

Those leads could be a +5V modulation/trigger, although it's also possible that shorting them (i.e. tying the +V/red to ground) would have it kick in. It's also possible that there's a switch or jumper somewhere that changes the "mode".

Can you post pictures of the back and front of the PSU you have? I'm not familiar with these ones specifically but these usually have similar features that will allow you to bypass the +5V modulation/trigger requirement, or invert it, assuming it's that and not just an interlock.

May be worth checking with the seller to confirm if it's an interlock or not, if it is then just short the wires and heatshrink the connection or stick a switch on there.

Of course diachi!

Couldn't I just attach the cables to a battery for example? Some C2's give out 1.5Volts. I spoke with the seller and he did say you needed a power supply. Anyway here they are :yh:

Might be a dipswitch or some such there to change settings, but pictures are too small for me to see. It'd be fairly obvious to you if there was anyway... Could be an internal jumper/switch too.

Yes, should be able to attach to some batteries, just as long as it's 5V - a better option if you don't have any proper power supplies lying around is to use a spare 5VDC phone charger (most anything in the last 5+ years is going to be 5V - anything with a micro or mini USB end), cut the end off the cable, strip back the wires and hook + to red and - to black. While not ideal, that works in a pinch and is a better choice than batteries.

You can check the label on the charger/verify with a DMM if you're not sure what voltage it is. A DMM will give you polarity too, if you're not sure about that. Usually it'll be +V red -V black, or +V wire will have a white stripe/dashes, -V wire will have no stripe/dashes.

Sorry I ignored your Skype call, I'm at work...

Hap, congrats on your new flamethrower!
I need to use a 5V supply to activate my unit also.

Look at the upper left side of the photo below, and you'll see what I used for my 5V supply, it's just 3 1.5V AA batteries in a Radio Shack holder.
The 3 x 1.5V batteries when new come real close to 5V.

Ok, if I do try the batteries, if it isn't 5V but 1.5V only(only 1 C2 battery hooked up) that would work correct? If it needs to be 5V I'll need to line up several C2's in a row.

If not I'll try your phone tactic. I simply need to connect red to red, black to black wrap it around snug, and then plug the USB into a wall outlet?

Haha, see, batteries work just fine too Alex!

BG ... if the DC supply for the driver is 5V you can just hook the modulation line right up to the power input on the driver or output on the PSU. Might not even need the ground, my 0.5W 532 CNI shared a GND between modulation GND and supply GND, so hooking modulation +V to input +V alone worked just fine. Much neater that way.

Well, I plugged in 1 C2 battery at 1.5V and it worked! I looked at the dot and already I have flash green residue on my eyes, damn...... that wasn't anything near 2.8W and I could barely see the beam during the day.

Just some progress, this thing is insane!

Thanks diachi, I was going to do that, but I have just been putting it off, you know ...."out of sight, out of mind"; I really should do that though.
So you're thinking that just the +V alone will be enough? I agree, it would be much, much neater. :D

Thanks BowtieGuy, expect a review later today hopefully! I appreciate the help guys. I'll need to get a real PSU soon though

Edit: Wow, already have a burn mark on a white wall. Yikes.

You might want to get a back stop., I don't want to read about you setting your house on fire with a green laser and you standing out front of your smoldering house telling the fire men "But you should have seen that beam !".
