Mod a green laser into a ir laser.






you can remove the crystals but you need different optics to collimate the ir into a beam. do-able but not feasible b/c you have to spend extra money for optics which could cost $$ since they will have to be certain sizes and focal lengths..
 
I've done it, but as ndrew2505 said, it won't be as straight forward as just removing the crystals
 
It will probably not perform as well either, since the pump diode is probably a fairly large multimode type. The beam will not be comparable to the quality of the green, no matter what you do with optics afterwards.
 
Depending on if the MCA is a hybrid crystal or not, you might be able to just remove the KTP and end up with a 1064nm IR laser. The stock lens will do an ok job at collimating that beam. IF it is not a hybrid MCA then the ND:YVO4 crystal may have a circular defined emitting area on the square/rectangular OC end. At any rate the beam will be better quality then the 808nm beam that the pump LD will emit.

If you do have a means to collimate the pump LD, you will get a 250mW + IR laser for cheap.
