hello people,

Does anybody know what the maximal current is that the infrared diodes in the dealextreme 5mW pointers can whitstand?
i have turnd it up to 290mA at the moment (meashured at the driver) and it does between 15 and 20 mW at the moment

greetings hendrik

It's been a long time since I pot modded a Leadlight 105. I'm not sure about the newer ones coming out but they do have smaller crystal assemblies and won't take much more than what you have there. I always stopped at 320 mA but those were the older pointers.

I think you should be happy where you are at now.

hmm too bad :(
my leadlight 105 is working on 450 mA (since 2 years for now) and still works great
(gives an output power of 75 mW whitout any ir)
i think im going to buy another DX and try whats the limit on the hard way (going up in power until it blows in steps (by example: 290mA , leave it running 1 hour, 310 mA , another hour, 330 mA etc))

thanks anyway

Perhaps this is useful: I re-did circuitry on a DX20, and that runs best on roughly 300 mA. It actually gets dimmer towards 350 mA, probably due to diode warming causing mismatch or ktp inefficiency.

I've ran it on 300 mA for quite some time, seems to suffer no ill effect so far.
