Looking For A Quality Greenie To Burn Things

Hello LPF community!

I am RapidVodka and I am new to the forums.

I've been doing some lowkey research behind the scenes on the forum and I just made my account.

Anyway I've been fascinated with fire and lasers from a very young age and what's better than to combine both of them?

I know blue 405nm is one of the best wavelengths for burning but I just love the green beam even though its not as effective maybe you guys could steer me in the right direction.

I am on a budget looking to spend on about $200 wish I could spend more but thats out of the question.

I will be using the laser for mainly burning (lighting matches, lighting cigarettes, lighting fuses, popping balloons, burning paper etc)

I've been looking at the 100mw rpl lasers from optotronics as well as the 95w cni lasers from dragon lasers and to my understanding it seems that cni lasers perform better in burning? Also that the smaller the beam diameter the greater the lasers ability to burn. It seems that most lasers are around the same beam diameter so if you guys could steer me in the right direction that would be great!

I also emailed cni for an individual purchase but they quoted me $60 to ship from China which is ridiculously expensive.

Thanks for the help guys!

rayfoss has some great 20omw and up lasers within your budget so does olike and lazerer. I hope this helped if it did please rep me

I have been looking into lazerer but I don't know how great quality there products are, how does it compare to CNI/Opto?

I've been looking at the stickie on laser pointer companies and it seems like olike doesnt procude the greatest quality products anymore.

Power, just plain power is what burns the best. And, actually, the shorter the wavelength (closer to purple and UV) the more energy it carries, Watt for Watt.

Our eyes are most sensitive to green, so high power greens not only burn, but they look bright as all get out.

Right now, 445nm Blue pointers can be had at 2000mW in your price range. But a 2000mW green is big $$$$.

If you want to burn, I'd go for one of Blord's 445nm builds in the Buy Sell Trade forum.

But no matter what color you get, if its strong enough to burn, you'll need some goggles. Order some now. The one's referenced in my signature are decent for $10. There is little excuse to not own a pair.

What he said^

And a 100mW 532nm laser will NOT light a cigarette or a candle. You MIGHT be able to get it to light a match, but it would be very difficult. My 500mW 405nm laser takes a little bit to light a candle, so that should put it in perspective. I would go for a 445nm laser and then get a ~100mW Green laser from a cheap site with the leftover moneys.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

First and foremost. If you are going to do a lot of burning. Please make sure you pickup a pair of safety glasses. When burning you tend to get a lot of back reflections and that can be dangerous.

As Jake said, lazerer is a good option since they do sell "on spec" lasers unlike most Chinese sites that you see (example : "200mW green laser 46.99!" These are just scams/false adverts really) You can also pay a little extra to get a printed LPM graph unique to your laser if you want when you checkout.

If you don't want to wait for a laser from china. You can get a solid titanium laser (yes the laser is REALLY made of titanium!) from hakzaw1. I believe the lasers he has are doing around 130-150mW but they are sold as 100mW. (See post 21 http://laserpointerforums.com/f48/jetlasers-ti-b-76640.html)

Either way there are some options for you. Just be safe and have fun!

@wannaburn: A "true" 100mW green laser will light a cig man :). I really wouldn't suggest it though... only takes ONE mistake to ruin that vision.

Thanks for all the amazing posts guys!

I am definitely going to grab myself a pair of safety goggles, probably the one in pschlosser sig, will these ones provide protection from both 532nm and 445nm wavelengths?

And I will definitely take a look at Blord's 445nm builds in the Buy Sell Trade forum, also do you guys recommend any companies to purchase blue 445nm laser pointers from?

Are 445nm wavelength laser beams visible at night?

Thanks again!

My 2.5W+ 445nm build is like a beacon unto the stars. Looks magnificent! just don't shine at planes and whatnot.

EDIT: Good companies for low cost would be Lazerer...don't trust a lot of them nowdays....if I were you I would either build my own or buy from a member here.

I would love to have my own beacon into the sky haha! and I'd never shine them at planes or people

I love the host on your 445nm! Any chance you would be willing to build me a 1w version?

That host is a custom host by the member her named Ehgemus. I am sure if you contacted him he could build you a host to your specifications. Be warned though, custom hosts will increase the cost of the build. Mine was a double 18650 host so it was quite a bit....but well worth it IMO.

My build cost:
Host: 85 dollars IIRC
Diode+Driver+Lens Barrel: 130 dollars
Batteries: 15-20 IIRC
Total cost excluding diode that I killed: 230-240 dollars.

There are, however, less expensive diode/host options, and I would recommend exploring that before making a decision. I killed my first two 445nm diodes I ever bought, and fried my first 3 drivers. The drivers I killed because of not having a decent soldering iron. The diodes was a combo of bad luck and again, bad soldering iron.

Hope that info helps,
Isaac

Wow thats an expensive host  and that sucks man with the bad luck, I'm definitely going to look around thanks for the insight

Just did an itemized breakdown of my whole paypal history and turns out I killed 3 445nm diodes before this one.

Even worse is my total. Between 8/2010 and now I have spent $1538.70 and sold stuff for a total of $406.32 for a net total spent of $1132.38. So much money! For me atleast, cause that is like 1.5months of work for me.

Eh, it is all good. 2 of the diodes were from 2 years ago, and the other one was from a few months ago. So it was spread out. Moral of the story is that if you want to build your own laser PRACTICE on other less expensive diodes and INVEST in a decent Soldering Iron. I now have a 50 dollar Weller Soldering Station (8-40W) and it is millions of times better than the no name POS I had before.

Pay attention to the size of the tip you get because it makes a TON of difference. Soldering tiny drivers with a giant stick is impossible. lol
