It depends on what you want. If you want something powerful and small, i'd say a nova X-125, some goggles and good rechargeable batteries with a charger and you would still have some money for optics. your price range seems right in between pen sized lasers and hand held lasers. Maybe an optotronics RPL 165 if you want a hand held laser; and that one comes with a lithium rechargeable battery and charger. Good Luck! ; :)

You can sure make a monster laser with that kind of budget.

That's too big a budget to bother with a DIY... :p
Go for a Nova or a RPL. Definitely.
MAKE SURE you save $40 from teh laser and GET SOME GOGGLES!!!

man i wish we had a DX LPF member discount....

and for 500 bucks, go for a very high powered laser, like an aries

or an X-125 with optics kit will always do...

There are other important differences as well. For example the RPL uses a 2.5 Watt n-Light IR diode where as the PPL uses a 1.2 Watt n-Light IR diode. You need to carefully compare the specs before you make a decision... :) If I was in your shoes and considering an optotronics laser, I would try to scrape up a little more money and get an RPL-200. ;D

If you want an RPL but with a better price, contact pseudonomen137 as he sells them much cheaper than Optotronics. DEFINITELY worth it.

i would personally go for a class 4 IR, but thats an invisible beam and you might not like that. and I also believe it costs a bit more than 600 bucks...

go for a green, and I hear pseudonomen has some good deals...

you just missed a 200mW GB from drL, for 400 dollars, but you can get good deals on other comanies that have a better name like Optotronics or laserglow

also, a hercules would eb agood laser, though you would have to save a bit more money.

IMO, save up a bit more money, and get a really good and powerful laser.

regards,

amk

PS, if I were in your shoes, Id save a good 200 bucks of it, 40 for some goggles, and the rest for a LPM, Kenom sells em cheap.

regards,

amk
