*sigh*

So, got my first real laser today (I'd played around with 1mW ones before) a 150mW green from Rayfoss in their small waterproof host. (I ordered a 100mW, but they ran out of modules, so Faona offered a 150mW upgrade for free)

Hello Faona.

The laser arrived today, but there is a problem; let me describe to you the events of today:

I receive the parcel, it is intact, and unaffected by customs (thankyou for this). There is no physical damage to the product.
I install a protected li-ion 3.6V battery, with the correct orientation. The laser turns on and for about 20 seconds, the laser works perfectly. Then, for a period of 5 seconds, flashes between TEM00 and TEM01, then completely turns off. After checking the battery (and other batteries, the fault was not there), it's voltage, and finding everything ok, I try it once more; the laser produces light for about 3 seconds then turns off. Again, I cannot do anything to get it to turn back on.

What are my options here?

It is a shame to have this happen, my experience with you so far had been perfect.

Thankyou for your help.

So, of course it's up to her, and they're on public holiday at the moment, so I won't know too soon; but what is most likely to happen? I've heard of the excellent customer service from Rayfoss.

Also, is it normal for that kind of fault to happen? Is there anything I did wrong to invoke that?

Thank for your answers guys.

These lasers are manufactured pretty cheaply, as you can tell from their retail price, so failures are always a possibility (Not alawys with cheap lasers though, I have had a CNI module die on me).

I would say maybe your driver is screwed, since a lower voltage does usually effect the TEM modes. Although, a replacement would be best.

A bummer, but that's how it is with lasers unfortunately.

Turns out the wrong battery was sent with the order, a 3.7V instead of a 3V.

It was sent by mistake, and after learning this, Faona offered to replace the module in the laser. I sent it back yesterday.

So, unfortunate as it was, the situation seems like it will fix itself, thanks Rayfoss.

lol rayfoss 150module is sensitive.. it is only to be used with 3.0v. I know this and i am always complaining about this at rayfoss but they dont listen. try to investigate, smell if the pcb is somehow burned. if you smell something like burned thats it. 3.6v is way over for that rayfoss module thats why what i did is that i used o-like modules on a rayfoss host.
