Just bought my first 'high power' laser today: Amazon.com: Bynovel 5 mW 532 nm Green 2in1 Laser Pointer with Constellation Cap Mini Stage Light: Electronics
It's really cool, I absolutely love it. However, I have some issues with it:
- Battery life is horrible. Maybe 15 minutes continuous use on a good day.
- Isn't quite bright enough. I can't pretend I'm Anakin Skywalker. (Kidding, I like seeing the beam...)
- Build quality is a little shady. But hey, for $5 no complaints.
Anyways, using this thing makes me want to get a laser that fixes the above issues. I want to use it without eye protection, and I am confused on what wattage is safe for most uses. Some people say the 5mw is the absolute max (FDA). Others say that a 10-15mw is OK if you are careful (the sticky mentions this) and I've seen some on this forum say some higher wattages are fine. After a few hours of research, I don't know what to conclude. So what's the scoop? Can I admire a 15mw in a dark room without any problems?
Also, based on your answer to the above question, can you recommend me a good quality laser with acceptable battery life? My budge is $100 max.
I was thinking about a Dragon lasers 15mw Viper series, but I'm not sure if that is a good choice.
I'm probably going to buy it (IF I buy it) on my 19th birthday, here in 3 days! :yh:
EDIT: I am sorry if I sound completely ignorant
