I got this (chinese) Small Sun ZY-850 50mW green laser.. but I have not been able to use it becasue of the battery type. If anyone know what exact battery would be required for this model, I'd LOVE to know, I did some shopping around and couldn't find a place that sold them and even that was hard not knowing exactly what I was looking for. From what I can tell it is a single 18650 lithium battery but how many mAh and voltage I don't know.. there are so many types of this battery I am lost.. Thanks for the help.

DX sells a bunch of different batteries in that size aswell as their required chargers. As for voltage and mAH rating theres no need to worry. All 18650 batteries will have effectively the same voltage and the mAH rating is just an indicator of its capacity. The higher it is, the longer your laser will run between charges.

Sorry for newbie questions, but what do you mean DX? And correct me if I am wrong, 18650's are larger in diameter and length than AA's?

Welcome to the Forum....

but you should actually spend some time reading the Posts on the
Forum...
I can tell by your (already asked 100 times) questions that you have
not yet attempted to do some research on your own...

There is a wealth of info here... but you will need to do some simple
research to dig it up....

Just for FYI, to correct you're flaming, I have done TOO MUCH research on this nasty little lazer. Getting detailed information on this laser has been like dodging a round from a guy with gatling gun in a five foot wide hallway. Aparently, this laser is unknown in mW, for the fact its being advertised as 20...30...50... but all that could be found is, that there is only one rating for this, at 30mW. For I recieved a 30mW laser advertised as 50, and labelled so at 50.. Also advertised as waterproof, and that it takes a 18650 Lithium Battery, inwhitch has been argued to be wrong voltage, so.. I think this laser needs a detailed evaluation from... someone, even if it be me.

Losah;

All #18650 batteries will work a laser that uses that size battery.
The size is 18mm x 65mm, hence the number.

They are all the same voltage (4.2 DC).

Newer models will have more capacity in mah (milliamp-hours).

I use 2400 mah Japanese batteries in all my builds for reliability.

Chinese types are generally not as trustworthy.

They are safe if you charge them correctly,
and use them properly.

Edit - After checking, it looks like you may have a 30mw laser and actually use an R123 battery.

He's not flaming. He's pointing out that you are simply asking instead of learning.

Lazy and/or lying gets you little respect here. Showing disrespect for a veteran member with a good reputation will get you shunned.

Not knowing what DX is shows that you didn't even read the stickies in this very board you are posting in.

Somehow that doesn't look like TOO MUCH research to me

I simply ran "Small Sun ZY-850" through Google. It took me all of 20 seconds. I got over 30 hits some of the sites with specifications for this laser.

You don't like Google, how about our own little search engine? It came up with this:

QFT. Jerry NEVER flames. In fact he is a very helpful & well educated member. Perhaps too helpful to ingrates like you. Jerry is always helping people out, and even sent out free 1Ω resistors so people could build their own dummy loads for their drivers.

And what Jerry & Dave said is correct. If you don't even know what DX is then that proves you haven't read anything, let alone use the search function.

P.S. After careful contemplation, I've come to the conclusion that sending out free 1Ω resistors to fellow board members so that they can build dummy loads is a tell tale sign of a flamer. J/K :na:

"Flaming is the act of posting or sending offensive messages over the Internet. These messages, called "flames," may be posted within online discussion forums or newsgroups."

"Flaming often leads to the trading of insults between members within a certain forum. This is an unfortunate result, as it often **throws the discussion of a legitimate topic** well off track.

I was offended, its not -MY- fault I was offended by his comments. "I can tell by your (already asked 100 times) questions that you have
not yet attempted to do some research on your own...", if the average person would walk up to a overweight woman, and say, boy you are getting fat, I can tell you have no yet attempted to exercise.. Its offensive. Its asuming something, without cause. So..

You can still flame, and be a good guy, you just don't always know you are doing it. Anyway, I wasn't starting anything with him, plus, sort your own f'in business out, it wasn't between ANY of you, but me and lasersbee.

Don't insult me, I argue with NO-ONE, I don't care WHO you are, -I- didn't offend someone -I- let someone know i didn't appreciate flaming, a simple, sorry didn't meant to say that, I see the trouble you are having, fixes things.

Now, mfo there, if you look up and read there.. you would understand that the informaation given on this unit, is ALL misty. It doesn't matter if you find the specs on any of the 3 sites it is on. What I have, and what is given for specs on websites are different (not that there is many). Its almost like I don't KNOW what I have becasue its not really there. Like they don't even know what they are shipping. But I will find out, alot of pictures have been taken.. I am currently trying to track where this was manufactured..

LarryDFW, THANK YOU for your information.. Anything is usefull for studying this unit.

(There will be no more replies to negative comments, so save you're fingers. I have pointed this out once, thats enough.)

LOL...Nice

Losah, All we are trying to say is that we always get people in here that don't even read the simple basic stuff on the thread. I am not saying you didn't do research on the laser you bought....I am saying that you neglected to read the basics for Newbies on this forum. It's all good though...live and learn, that's what we are all here for.
None of what was said was meant to be an insult.
How about we all stop adding fuel to the non-existent fire/flame and move on.

I hope you like your new laser and Welcome to LPF. :)

Did you do the Google search I suggested?

Did you read the thread at the link I provided?

Or were you just so hurt that you didn't get the content from my posting?

Peace,
dave
