That would work. You can use any piece of AR coated glass, unless you're looking to specifically block out IR.

Also you can use a dustcap, although personally I just keep loosing the damn things:p

Yeah, I thought about a dust cap... I dont really care about IR I just want something that will block as little of the laser as possible.

any suggestions where to get a small piece of AR coated glass?

Aye it is either this or find a sealed pocket-friendly container/holster to put the laser in. For torch style handhelds with a smaller form factor NiteIze PockIts "mini" is great. I have one for my 200mW 650nm waterproof handheld and it fits like a glove. There is room for 2 to 3 pen style pointers as well but they aren't padded or covered nearly as much as the main pocket.

That's why I'm going for the Lazerer's LZBH (Bighead) host. It has a shutter. Every decent laser should have one.

I hate having dust in my laser it is so annoying! I just use a cigarette filter covered in a baby wipe to clean mine out.
