Just got my first laser over 5mw today. Cheap green 50mw "KD 50" came from hong kong today after about 2 weeks. Laser was around 25 bucks and is way brighter than anythign I have owned before.

Got to admit though, after reading all about laser safety on this forum I'm very shy to using it lol. I dont have goggles yet, but should be coming soon.
My question for some of you guys with 50mw greenies is .... how dangerous is the dot from non-reflective surfaces like walls, trees other stuff like that. Does it just depend on color and distance? I'm viewing the dot indoors up close, but for instance lets say i shine it across the room (20ft) is it still dangerous?

I would say if the laser is over 30mW, it's unsafe to look at from less than 15-20 feet. You should definately be safe viewing the dot 20 feet away.
