Just got my 200mW 532nm laser from cheaptronics4u

As the title of the thread says, I just got my 200mW 532nm laser from cheaptronics4u. It was a hard deal to pass up with a sale price of $48.50. I'm not sure that it actually puts out the power it claims to though since it doesn't seem that much brighter than the 50mW 532nm laser I bought from dealextreme. I guess I need to get a LPM to test them.

For anyone looking to purchase this laser, here is a brief write up:

The length of the laser is just under 4 inches and the diameter is .75 inches. I don't have a small scale, but the website lists it at 195 gm. which is a little under half a pound. This laser is operated with a click-on/click-off switch in the tail cap and does not have a key lock, connector for remote interlock, or a closable front apreture. I would assume this is not FDA approved even though the warning lable claims this is a class IIIa laser. The laser is fixed focus and cannot be adjusted. The laser is powered by a single CR2 battery which is included with the laser. As I mentioned above, I do not have a LPM yet so I can't confirm the actual output. At this price point, I don't believe the laser has and IR filter and I did not see one when I disassembled it. At night, the laser does produce a very bright visible beam that easily travels several miles. I tried burning a piece of black paper at I could not even get it to smoke. The dot did appear pretty well focused with my safety goggles on. I would have to assume that this laser puts out way less than the 200 mW that it claims since it didn't even leave a mark on the paper. I will try with a brand new battery just to be sure that is not the issue. Overall build quality is average with my limited experience. I would probably rate this product a 2 out of 5.

Well, I can assure you it isn't even close to 200mW. It's just like the crappy focalprice ones. Well, you only have to figure out how much power does it output. If it's arround 50~80mW, bad deal. There are some much better lasers for a lower price.

To no supprise you got ripped off, under $50 for a brand new 200mW green laser, not even in your dreams, too good to be true.

#1- It says class IIIa, if it is true than it is <5mW
#2- DX does not ship lasers over 5mW into the USA, so either you bought it a long time ago, or had someone else overseas buy it and ship it to you... hmmmmm...:thinking:

Is that so? How about a 300mW green NEW for FREE??? It was not in my dreams, but it still happened to me lol

I will post some pics when I get a chance. I am certain the power output doesn't even come close to 200mW. I don't have a way to really measure beam divergence, but I am certain it is horrible. I aimed the beam at a tree about 25 - 30 yards away and it was as wide as the trunk (which was about 6 inches in diameter). This is an estimate, but its pretty close. I tried to mess with the focus by removing the actual laser from the housing. I think they must have locked the focus some how. I will post more when i get the pics. I would have to agree that it was a ripoff and I would suggest that anyone considering this laser pass on this one.

By the way, the laser was ordered from cheaptronics4u which does ship top the US. I had the lasers from dealextreme sent to a friend in Spain and he brought them over for me.
