I was so pleased with my X-125 that I ordered an X-50 as a gift for a friend. I couldn't believe the specs when I got it, 79.9 mW peak and 74.5 mW average.

Wow, that was some good specs! :D I thought my x-85 was overpowered! Just half a milliwatt more and yours would have passed as a x-75 :p
Of all the hundreds of x- series lasers that Nova has sent out, I actually don't think that ANY of them has been underpowered!

I think you have received the luckiest X-series laser yet! .5mW more and it would have been an X-75. In fact, you might be able to pull off a match light with that thing.

X50 74mW average ???

This is one of the biggest differences when dealing with a more "reputable" laser company. They measure from the average or even sometimes the lower power output to rate their lasers. More disreputable dealers, rate their lasers based on the "peak" power output. Often that "peak" output only lasts for a brief second. Sometimes it seems that their output rating is based on "imagination" or the simple trust that most people don't have an LPM.

"Hey, Joe! . . . . Does this look like about 300mW to you? Yeah . . Me too."

Peace,
dave
