Hello All,
I just ordered my first two lasers.  I got a 5mW and a 50mW from Amazon.com.  I know they're nothing close to "quality" lasers but I am very excited about them.  The 50mW is advertised as a true 50 so we'll see.  I really have no official method to test them though.  Anyway, I'll let you know how they turn out just in case some other rookie decides to order lasers from Amazon.

Glad to be part of this forum all.

You don't *need* IR filters at 5mW or 50mW, the green output of the 50mW is what you want to worry about rather than the IR.

Be careful and enjoy your new lasers !

Well, my 50mW should make it in today and my 5mW made it in yesterday.  I am completely unhappy with the 5mW.  I took it outside and the beam was barely visible.  Same thing in a dark room inside, the beam is hard to see.

I took over to my friend's house and his 5mW from trueswords.com blew mine away.  We pointed them at the sky and his beam looked awesome whereas mine was hardly seen at all.

He also got a few 20mW in yesterday from Amazon and only one of them was worth a flip.  The other two were barely, if any, better than my cheap 5mW.

I plan on sending mine back and trying to get a better laser.  I guess you get what you pay for, huh?

Oh yeah, I didn't get them from MOP.....they came from "more4less2008" seller.  The buying experience was great with the seller.  Easy order, fast delivery....I can't fault them for that at all.  The product seemed well built and sturdy but the beam just plain stunk!! I really hope the return goes well also.

well if you need a way to test the outputs of the laser you can pay for shipping to any of the reputable members here that have a power meter and they will gladly measure the output for you.

i would gladly do it and i can also send you a graph of its stability :)

first of all, congrats on your first laser. hi, my name is kevin, and i just got my first laser last month (but i have been studying light for about a year)
all that true means is that it has a NewWish laser. so that 50mW one should be good. secondly, ur friends 5mW is probably rated greater than 5mW, while yours is rated less than 5mW. i have a 100mW, that i am aproximating is running around 90mW. i have the newWish laser diode, and i am happy with it. newwish does not get much credit for being a good laser company, but they do have an iR filter. your 5mW might be rated at 5mW, but 4mW of it is IR, and only 1mW is green... sorry, send it back, and buy a 100mW newWish... i love mine
u can email me: kcomptonjr@gmail.com

have fun, and i guess i have to say "be safe" even though i know i sometimes just like to goof around with it... i live in the USA, and i kind of have mine illeagly, im 16 years old

please let me know how ur 50mW works for you...

Okay, 50mW laser arrived and WOW!! It is absolutely perfect. Performs as expected and outshines my friend's 5mW and 20mW as it should.

I've talked with the guy from more4less and he has been a pleasure to work with. He has informed me to send this one back to him and he will try to find a laser with a good beam. Also, he said if he can't find one, he'd refund my money. I am very pleased with the whole transaction. Would buy from them again.

I'm gonna telly you right now, your 5mW isn't going to be an amazing laser, its only 5mW, a barely visible beam in dark room or at night is the best your going to get from a 5mW laser. besides i talk to the guy from GTech (mor4less) and he told me the mW rating on some of the lasers, the 5mW is 3-4.5mW, the 20mW is actually only 14-19.50mW. idk about the 50mW though since I don't have one yet (in the mail).

Well, when it does arrive, I hope you enjoy it. I know it's nothing compared to a top quality laser, but it's still a load of fun.

Please let me know when you get it and what you think.

I did notice that my laser will dim and then get stronger the more pressure you put on the button. I guess the button could be a little better.
