Short duty cycle, instability (especially since it's DPSS), almost non-working during heat waves or cold nights.

LIB quality speaks for himself, although i have not had the pleasure to own one of Jayrobs creations. I can tell you that LIB always does quality work! Rob will agree with me on this one!

How about a nice X75 by Novalasers? Do you guys think the LiB still reigns supreme?

I reviewed a 130mW O-Like Module. It has a divergence of 2.0mrad. It was the second module and the initial one, measuring at 70mW, had the same divergence factor. In comparison, my Bluesky 50mW LP in comparison, has a divergence of ~1.2. IR output of the O-Like modules averages around 17%.

I own builds from both JayRob (see Groovy Green review) and LIB (see RomiRed review) and both guys are really very nice and are both producing amazing stuff. Really, both are master machinists and both have a very good understanding of electronics and optics.

If I had to strain myself by pointing out their unique strengths, I would say that Jay is a tad more meticulous with his work as well as a bit better at Customer Relations. LIB's strengths on the other hand, include his straight-talk and "pictorial" correspondence as well as the fact that he (still) churns out complete lasers for responsible buyers.

Bottom line though, you can't go wrong either way! sure, you could "opt for an Opto" (...) but someday Jay and LIB are going to hang up their Lazor-lab-coats but Optotronics will still be mass-producing their LPs and handhelds.

I have become a collector of the DIY community's finest and as such, highly recommend that you choose homegrown over mass-produced:takeit:

Both are good. Buy both ;). Seriously, I'd just go with whatever does it for you aesthetically.

2.0mrad sounds pretty horrific... I like a good divergence so that is the only reason I am second geussing going with custom.

I just thought about this. Anyone ever take a module out of an optotronics pen and then put it into a better host with some more heatsinking abilities? I sent an email to Jack asking if we could possibly make a deal for the module alone.
