Hello guys, I just finished my blue laser and i thought its time to add a green to the collection. I really wanted to do a pen build in Jayrob's silver pen host and i immediately thought PL520. So, I decided to bet a PL520 (520nm) with an acrylic lens and a pre-soldered microboost set at 300mAh (for good lifetime and temps). I'm thinking this will give me around 100mW which is a great number for a cool pen like this. Does anybody see and holes in my plan?

For a smaller host I would set the diode for 200mAh, so that it produces less heat. That's just an opinion though, everything else looks good!

Cool i think i might compromise for 250mAh

pen hosts are super hard to build due to lack in space. even some of the most experienced builders dont bother with pen hosts for this reason. just know what you are getting yourself into before doing so ;)

It's the difference between 1.3W and 2W of heat.

Don't know how that would translate into duty cycle. It's your call :)

No. You can't get a pre soldered. Because if it needs to be repositioned you are screwed. And pen builds are intense. Very difficult. I would just suggest a different host.

at 300mA, a g lens is needed to top the 100mW mark, acrylic won't cut it, if I am not mistaken

I asked DTR about the Microboost battery draw at 300-350mA and this was his reply:
DTR said:
It will vary depending on the state of the battery but between 500mA-750mA would be my guess but it could go as high as 1A when the battery is at its lowest before needing to be charged. 7-8V is a lot of boosting.:)

Which means, even at 250mA, and if you plan to run 10440's in it, you won't have enough current capacity to get a decent runtime and probably not safe drawing a lot of current from small batteries. I'm not even going to mention running two AAAs on it. I'm going to use an 18650 on mine.
