Hi there I just joined this site cause i have a lot to learn about lasers. I was originally just going to get a simple red laser to play with my cats on the floor. but i started looking around and found all these different colors and the neat stuff you can do with them. I'd love experimenting with them.

So anyways, I want to get a good green laser that I could use for pointing at clouds and popping balloons and stuff. I would be fine with a 5mW one but i dont know if those could pop balloons. I haven't ever had a green laser before and understand the dangers that come with them.

I was looking on lazerer and found one on sale. Its the LZCS - 532nm 50mW Focusable Green Laser Pointer. LZCS - 532nm 50mW Focusable Green Laser Pointer

I also was on wicked laser and saw the core. They are both very different I know. Basically I just want one that I can see the beam with and maybe pop some balloons/cut tape and stuff. No playing with cats with this one haha, Ill just get a cheap one from a store in the mall.

Anyways if you can lend me your recommendations and any tips that would be great!. I live in Canada btw so if you know any local sites that would be cool. :p

DO NOT BUY FROM WICKED LASERS! Sorry, had to get that out there. If you want one that can pop balloons, I would try a 100mW. Im not entirely sure a 50mW can pop balloons. Lazerer is a good site, however if you wont to pay with paypal you will need to find another website to purchase from. Lazerer no longer accepts paypal, if you can pay another way I would stick to this site. You want to buy a pair of safety goggles too, with a 50 or 100mW you can get away with the cheaper pairs.

I didnt notice you said you were in Canada, this might be an issue. read this

Hmm darn, sometimes it sucks living in Canada... Well then im not really sure what to do. I dont have LSO qualifications. Any ideas? Would that encompass all green lasers? Or could i still order a 5mW? I would at least like to be able to see the beam. That is my minimum requirement. In other words im not really sure where the high powered lasers specs start at. Would nano meters be a problem? Sorry for all the questions... this sucks.

It looks like you can only legally get away with a true 5mW or less laser. Which can be very hard to find. Most cheap 5mW green lasers are overspeced.

I would have to read more, but it looks like if you want a strong laser you will have to make it.

Ok. Making one would be really cool actually. I dont have a soldering kit. Out of curiosity where could I get the information to make one myself?

This forum has everything you need to know. You just gotta do some research. Figure out what you want, learn how a laser works, then learn about each part. By the time you get that down you should have a very good understanding of what to do.

Digital are you actually going to google this for me? Or are you just trying to be funny? I only wanted to know if there were any recommend guides that anyone knew of. I google'd it as soon as making one myself was an option.

Anyways thanks TacoHerder. Ill start researching about it. i hope I can find supplies where I live.

Haha ok thanks but im way past that point. Oh hey, i've seen a lot of stuff so far about taking a normal low powered laser pointer and making it into a high powered one. is it worth looking into that? Or is it better to just start from scratch? Im just looking at two different paths.

Search the forums. Straight up if you aren't capable of locating the info to build a laser on here you aren't smart enough or have the proper resources to actually build one. Should take u about 3 hours of light searching and reading. If you still don't know how go to Walmart and find the Lego section. Small steps.

Are you serious? This is how you treat new members? I thought this was for asking questions and discussing things. I never said that I was incapable of looking up information. I just wanted to get some leads and talk to some people. If you dont have anything useful to ad to the discussion why are you even commenting in it? Just leave.
