I just bought a green laser and then found out that USA has restictions...

Some chinese companies will ship regardless of the rules and then it's just up to chance, more likely than not you'll get your laser.

Don't freak. 90% of the pre-assembled lasers the American members have here are not importable, but we have them anyway.
The worst that happens is Customs takes it, sends you a letter, then you (should) get a refund from the seller. Or they just send it again, and odds are that one gets through.

Normal sunglasses will not protect against most lasers *at all*. You need something that will protect against 532nm.

Remember that the laser SHOULD look dim when wearing them. Honestly, everyone probably takes them off momentary to see the beam in its 'full glory' - but if you're doing burning (or whenever you can; most of the time) - wear them. 50mW can cause blind spots instantly. (But it's a good starting point, as reflections won't be as bad.)

I know a bit about China because I just purchase my 1W Spartan from Dragonlasers. Don't worry, they are very smart people, and they are all too familiar with FDA laws. You will know what I mean when you see your package. They are harmless looking package.
MY country follows FDA laws strictly too, and in fact, one of the world most stringent countries, not even as liberate as USA where even chewing gum is banned, yet I got my Spartan delivered safe and sound, so don't worry you will get your laser from China too.
Wicked Lasers are a big hoo ha so they entered the custom's list. I don't know why they generate so much attention. I believe other laser companies are not target. At least these are my opinions.

in my opinion, it sounds too cheap to be true. Most important is, to know what is the OD you need. I am not sure about others, but I owned a OD+7 goggles, and even with that, I felt uncomfortable when staring at the blue dot on the wall at 50cm away (That blue dot comes from the Spartan 1W laser). I am not sure how strong are your lasers, but you sure got to get a good one at least OD6 or OD7 if your lasers are that strong.

I bought a pait of these Green Blue Laser Eye Protection Safety Glasses Goggles - eBay (item 270585416220 end time Nov-23-10 19:53:28 PST) they are in the US.
OD means Optical Density. Try wikipedia. If it is only 50 (i hope you have an ir filter), then it should be ok. Maybe a usual OD2 glasses will do. Most goggles out there are about OD+2.

OD is a measure of the protection against laser beams. Basically, move the decimal point up for every OD unit. Example: OD2 will turn 400mW into 4mW. Considering the laser you got probably isn't even 50mW, OD1 should cover it (although there's nothing wrong with more protection).
Honestly I don't even think you need goggles in this situation. Think about it, can 50mW burn? No. The only reason you would even need goggles is if you are staring at the dot close up, and I have no idea why you would want to do that.

What about an IR filter do I need one of those too or are they built into the glasses?
I have done it before just because the light is so pretty. jk. but seriusly I have shined a 5mw strait into my eye before. but I will never with this one! I will get goggles as I may want a bigger laser later on.
