For a green laser, what would 10mW

Yes.  You can find them along with the dumb wise men, the jumbo shrimp, and the world's tallest midget.

you cant get it cheap anywhere unless you make it. yea you can see the beam on a 50mW nicely, hell i can even see the beam on my 5mW in the dark and the dust sparkles in a lit room, same with my 20mW. 50mW can pop a balloon although it takes a little while, well mine does. but like maxkillz said >130mW will do what ya want and then some

I posted this table on another thread, but I though it would be useful here as well:

These figures are for just a collimated beam with no external focusing.

Also, this is just a rough estimate, since each laser has characteristics that can either add to or detract from its ability to burn.

At 20mW or less you'll get no destructive power whatsoever.

At 50mW you'll start to be able to burn/cut black electrical tape and other thin black plastic sheets.

Around 75mW you'll start to be able to feel it sting your skin and pop black balloons.

~100mW will light matches (particularly black ones.)

~150mW will light any match, melt thicker black plastic.

~200mW will melt through 1mm thick black plastic.

~250mW will do all of the above plus light fireworks and cigarettes.

~300mW will burn through cardboard and some thick plastics.

for the most part thats true except for that i cant even make a mark on any electrical tape with my 50mW but i can pop balloons

As was stated in a different thread;  What is printed on the label of the laser means nothing.  My Uniphase argons say "<.50 WATT" and they are "significantly" <.50watt.  I also had a 5mW green pointer that actually produced 40mW.  Even though the label says 20mW, it is most probably more than 20mW.  The only way to know is to have it tested.

Peace,
