So I bought a green kaleidescope laser from china that looks exactly like this one from DX:DealExtreme: $18.72 Kaleidoscopic 30mW Green Laser (Puts on Laser Shows)

The laser works for about 10 seconds and then immediately begins to dim and eventually all that remains is the IR portion. It becomes usable again after waiting a bit but for ~10 seconds as well. I suspect it may be a driver problem? (not sure, anyone know more about this?). I want to open up the laser to see if I can fix it. Does anyone know if this particular laser pointer can be disassembled from the tip? Or is it glued in place on the inside/threaded? From the back end of the laser it looks like there's these black plastic guides that holds the pcd board from twisting. The last pointer I tried disassembling had those guides and the laser was not removable from the firing tip so I had to drill a hole to get to the pot.

Hey bud, Check your batteris. Sounds like they are low or of poor quality. That should fix your problem. If that is not the issue these lasers are fairly simple to take apart. What you will need to do is get some electrical tape and wrap the top silver potion a few times so you have a nice think layer of tape around it. (remove the star tip first) then get a hold of some nice think pliers
(the big ones with the wire cutter on the first half) Grip the tape part of the laser very tight and wiggle the top out (the tape will wiggle off....a lot) eventually you will see the tip coming out of the casing. Keep at it until it is off. If you are not concerned with damaging the finish on the tip of the laser then just forget about the tape.

Also If you have a vice then you will not need the pliers. Just squezz the taped part into the vice and perform the wiggling back and forth action. There is no glue inside. It is tightly press fit.
