How do I know when the batteries are dead?

How do I know if the batteries are finished? Does the laser dot shape changes? Does it go dim?

Also, what happens if the crystal is fried? Does it change shape?

Also....Sa2Fan have you ever owned anything that uses batteries? What does anything usually do when the batteries go out/bad??? It stops working!!!!! or the light goes dim!!!!
