This host isnt going to work..... is it? (Pic Heavy)

I bought this host Wholesale Product Snapshot Product name is Focusable Pointer Pen Housing/Host/Casing for 12mm Violet or Red Laser Module thinking it would work with an olike module, considering it says it accepts 12mm modules. I finally get my first piece, being the host, today, and I must say now I am a little worried....

Here are some pictures of the host, with measurements. (I tried resizing these photos)


In this photo you can see how different the button hole is positioned...


This is the inside diameter of my cheap eBay wish pen style green laser...


Now this is the inside diameter of the new host in question. You can see that its almost a full 1/10th of a mm smaller.


This is the distance from the end of the host to the back edge of the button hole.


The distance from the end of the Wish Pen host to back edge of the button, this is way off from what I expected...


Also, how do these two pieces adjust the focus of the laser. There is NO lens in either piece, one piece slips into the end of the host (which makes the area for the module EVEN smaller, and then somehow the smaller piece is supposed to adjust the focus (it has threads inside, but there is nothing for it to attach to, I am assuming you need the module for this)

Any help would be appreciated.... I ordered this and a 50mw o-like module for my first build, but if this isnt going to work I need to put in an order for a new host asap.... Thanks...

I was under the impression all axis modules were the same size? Or close to it....

I disassembled one of these eBay green pointers and there not the same size as the aixiz module, there bigger. You can see it in my link in my sig (eBay-532nm guidesman)

So, if I understand you correctly, the 50mw O-like module that I ordered will not be the same size as the modules in my eBay wish pen? To me, it just looks like the module in your pictures just has a different lens end, but the rest is the same size (to the pictures of other standard aixiz module green lasers). Either way, I dont see why the hole for my button is still 20mm off. Even if the eBay pens use bigger modules, I cant imagine other green modules being THAT much different in size....

you can always jump the existing switch and add a switch wherever you want to fit your hosts needs.

Yup i have done this, also the module can be shaved down maybe a bit to fit VERY snug.

That host is for laser diodes, not a green module. The two pieces are the module and focus adapter. Its a really great host, but a green module wont work in it.

what about the innards of a 405nm eBay wish pen? Obviously the dimensions of the wish pen are the same, but I'm assuming the 405nm parts are smaller than 532nm, correct?

The 405 and 532 are the same diameter but one the 405nm is a bit shorter iirc. The 405 has a different kind of ground thou.

Its definitely shorter.... if i place a toothpick into the aperture and let it rest on the lens, it is definitely shorter.... But before I go hacking this one up, I want to be sure it would work....

Diode fits into the piece with a lip. Driver soldered to diode. Half-barrel aixiz style lens goes into the ridged piece. The piece wiht a lip has threads inside it, right? And a <5.6mm hole, with a counterbored 5.6mm hole for to press diode into?

I haven't look at it in a while, but my o-like 10mW 405nm silver pen had a strange, oval diode in it, but I think it was still 5.6mm round on the backside, where the pins are.
