I've been thinking about a homemade green laser for a while, so recently I got a couple of Nd:YVO4+KTP composite crystals and a 500mw 808nm diode on ebay, all for less than £20. Here's my initial set up:
After lots of fiddling I had the beam focussed in to the crystal and 532nm flying out!
And here are some other pictures:
The whole set up is really precarious, and the diode is only getting about 300ma so I need to sort out a little driver for the diode to get 500ma in and hopefully 500mw out, that should really beef up the output. I'll also eventually get it all mounted nicely and securely, I just thought there was no harm in experimenting on my desk and I was more than happy to get a 532nm output!
