ledshoppe.com has a cheap 50mW greenie for about $30. You could also try o-like.com, they have a nice 50mW for about $37.

I have one that looks like the o-like one at around the same power. I havent left it on for 15mins straight but I think a good duty cycle like 60secs on and 30secs to cool down should be ok. I think either one is a good choice.

If you just want something to go about 2 miles and you don't want to have to use safety glasses, get a 5mw.

If you could boost your budget like 10-20 $, you could look at some laserglow(.com) 5mw models, or even the 5mw core from wickedlasers(.com)

What do you need it for? You mentioned running it for 15 minutes - most cheap greens won't handle running more than a minute or two without overheating. You might want to look into something like a small red laser module with a good heatsink that could run continuously - although red lasers are a lot less bright than green.

What do you mean by this? Do you want something bright enough that someone standing two miles away would see a bright light if the beam was pointed towards them? Or, do you want something bright enough that you can see the spot if you point at something two miles away? What is your specific application?

There's nothing on the market for $40 that's good for 15 minutes continuous operation.

According to WL's site the duty cycle is continuous. I can attest to this. I have 3 Cores that I use with a DIY spirograph for hours at a time and none of them have died.
