Hi,

I showed my green laser to a friend he was amazed for it be so strong to see the beam. But then he asked me: What the heck is that for? I said, pointing the sky. And he said: only? so useless.
Now im kinda thinking the same. LOL
Does anyone know any other use for lasers?

Astronomy buffs like to use the beam of greenies to point oit celestial objects to more casual observers. I have two green moules attached to two reflector telescopes to make aiming the scopes faster (working on the third for a small Schmidt-Cassergain). So, 'pointing the sky' isn't really that useless.
Seems that lots of the folks here on LPF like to light matches, pop balloons, & punch holes in black plastic bags with 100mW+ reds and greens, and blue Rays.
See, lots of serious scientific research and experimental type stuff.
Some people like to mount them on handguns and long arms to aid in target acquisition (seems to me like it really would help the other guy acquire his target faster, but that's just me). Your friend was probablly just jealous and playing "sour grapes".

Make it a laser sight if you shoot. Buy a gun mount and attach it to your gun. It will help you aim perfectly...

My greenies help keep the birds off the roofs and ballfields at work , they crap all over the place. Maybe the problem with geese in parks can be solved with lasers LOL.
I also use them for pointing at stuff in little field trips i do now and then for fossils. Really helps when explaining the strata in the cliffs and pointing at fossils too.

Actually, and this is true, the lasers in the domestic and personal ambit and for simply hobby, have very little utility.

However, in the industrial and profesional ambit, lasers rules in many aspects.
They are very important in many industrial tasks.

About your question, I think that lasers are simply a hobby, and we love it, for the simple fact of being lasers. lol Lasers are fucking awesome.

that nonsense lol.

I have trouble thinking of any practical application for my lasers.
And when my family have asked I have just said they were for fun. :)

Strictly entertainment/enjoyment. Very few things in life are truly practical (When's the last time you needed to watch tv?). To me lasers are for fun, and interestingly, I've had a very similar conversation with a few people, most of them want to play with the laser, love it, but than ask the same question.

Same goes for model airplanes, remote control cars, 1000 Lumen flashlights, etc... A hobby is a hobby. Leave logic at the door :D
