Has anyone disassembled the WL Evo Pro/E2 Evolution?

Can anybody give me some advice on opening up this laser?

I know a few of us got these for review a couple years back, and my guess is that the newer E2 is built the same way. Has anybody opened one of these up? I don't have a clue where to start. :D

I metered this laser the other day on fresh batteries and I'm only getting 15mW! When I got this it was outputting over 140mW. I've had it for over two years so maybe it's just bad contacts. I'd like to get this laser fixed because it was one of my favorites when it worked right.

I would try unscrewing the top of the laser where the beam exits. But then i would just probably brake it :oops:

Well, do you want to preserve the laser host or just gut it? If you want to gut it, I could go at it with a dremel and pliers.

Not sure if yours is the same s my innards but here is how i did mine when i had it.

Once you remove the cap you will see threading. I was able to screw on that the back half of an AixiZ module and wail using a vice pull it out.

Its really in there so you better get those GUNS out.:gun: I mean Mussels.:cool:

I cant remember but i think i was also able to push it out threw the battery tube by screwing on the back half of the Aixiz Module first then pushing it out with a vice.

I would try the pull method as that I do remember I did and it worked.

Just be very careful with the Switch and when your pulling etc you dont damage it.

I have taken one of these apart before.
Take off the aperture cap.
Pop out the black plastic ring (should be glued in with a weak adhesive).
The model I had (when they were called the "Evo Pro") used a CNI module.
I used a brass tube with matching threads (from a different laser module) to insert into the threads of the CNI module then pulled it out with a vice.
WL may be using a different (cheaper) module so in that case you may need to find something with matching threads or find someone who can make an adapter.
If there are no threads to hold on to, you should be able to just push the module out by pressing on the aperture side with another 12mm module like a blank Aixiz.

Edit: Lazeerer seems to have found the same solution.

Thanks lazeerer and RA_pierce, I couldn't find anything to thread in there right so I just pushed it through the back with the back half of an AixiZ module. I'd rep you lazeerer but I have to spread some around first. :rolleyes:

I played with the pot on the module a bit, I couldn't get it over 30mW. Looks like this is a host for my next laser.

I only use the drill and hammer methods on "special" lasers.

Glad you where able to get it out.:) They are very nice hosts.

You ever think about fixing the green in the module.

Sounds to me that you just need to replace the diode.

If I had some flex drives on hand I'd get something cool made from it today, I'm a fan of this host too.

I doubt it's the laser diode that's defective because I am still getting laser output, I could be wrong though. It might just be a bit out of alignment.
