Gutting and rebirthing of a WL E2

I had noticed that the button on my E3 200mW wasn't depressing correctly, after unscrewing the lens cover, I found that the little bit of glue holding the module inside of the host had broken free and the module was moving around inside the host (that explains the button issue). By sticking a pencil in through the battery end of the host, I was able to *gently* push the module out of the front of the host.

The breakdown of the E3 can be seen in the first two photos, notice the IR filter in the second photo.

Having the module out of the WL host, I decided to see if it would fit in a nice satin black pen host that I just got from jayrob for another build. Well, it fit perfectly, everything is very snug inside the module, not a battery rattle to be heard.

The green module seems to now perform much better than it did in the WL host, which always seemed to have some sort of connection issue which made the output less stable and less overall than what it seems to be now.

I also now have an empty E3 host which accepts 12mm modules with delight, I see a 445, 2X10440 coming soon! :evil:

EDIT: I've LPM'd this thing using one fully charged 10440 and it hits around 115-120mW from a cold start but the power quickly begins to decrease as the laser heats up. So I guess this module is 'up to spec' as WL defines it: 200mW = 100-200mW. :shhh:

This Is very Cool I dint think the E2 where that easy to take apart. Wish the Arctics where like that.



Does the E2 come in 445nm aswell.? If not that would be Pretty Cool.

To my knowledge they only made them in 532, 405, and 660. I like it because it's still a pen style and there is a bit more room to work and a bit more aluminum for heatsinking.

There is a little bit less than a half inch or so between were your module business end would be and the actual end of the host so if you wanted, you could secure fixed focus on an axis lens inside the host (witout the focus adapter on of course), and screw the stock lens cover piece on and have a slick looking fixed focus.
