Goggles are never so you can point it in your face. No one wearing goggles should try that Ever. You ware them because a reflection can shot it into your eyes. 50mW can damage your eyes faster than you can blink, and on reflections it does the same damage. So yes if you are using the laser indoors at close range you should ware goggles. 1 reflection is all it takes and you could have the eye damage the rest of your life possibly.

That's false. Any good glasses should easily protect from a direct hit in their blocking region.

If you use OD1 glasses, then, yeah, maybe.

They protect you at least once. Goggles CAN bleach. If you're using powerful enough laser, the goggles may only block a hit in a spot once. Why would you be pointing a laser at your face anyways? That's like smashing a helmet with a hammer to see if it works.

LaserGlow has Galileo which has 100% cycle-duty (always on OK).

I'd rather use compass/stars or get some "skills" to find back (direction and location awareness).
I don't have those kind of problems cause we do have a lot woods here :D

Whoa man, no need to negative rep me. :wtf:

If it is a cheap 5mW one, I wouldn't care about duty cycle. I would check how warm it was every few minutes and turn it off it got too warm. If it overheats, who cares? They're like $5.

Sorry that this is offtopic. But speaking clears things up and removes obstacles.
About the negative reputation I gave to you. It's nothing personal. I hate throw away consumption habit and short life time products. And comments encourages that.

:) lol it's meant to be, though a video game might be a little odd hahaha, level one protect pedestrians texting from tripping hazards, by level 5 your squirrel and rodent proofing homes and for level 10 (my job some days) to board and secure drug houses and breakins and the guilty aren't always gone  lol.

I was thinking of something like guitar hero. Where you have some kind of music on and you have to saw in time to it, or at different speeds depending on the type of wood. Then you have to hammer in the right places... or something.

You have no choice but to build some wooden lasers!! :D

If I had any rhythm I wouldn't be a carpenter lol though ninetendo wii controls would help (quick patent this)
A wood laser, I joined because I like all things light related. Not because I like to set fires  which is what i imagine a wood laser would do.... Spontaneous combustion :( carpenter is trying again Call 911

Why? Would you rather be a musician than a carpenter?

And, not necessarily. You just make the host out of wood and have the heatsink sticking out of the front. It's been done before, just forget by who...

If I had rhythm I'd nail and screw in a different profession ;) lol

Wood host would be bulky and gimmicky, it's like those wood pens you see around, they look cool but there not what you'd use day to day ;)
Atleast not what I'd use every day as it'd break in my jacket. Maybe if I have a desk job I'll get a wood pen and make a wood laser  :na:

Probably enough talking to me, go make an introductory post in the "Welcome" section and tell us a bit about yourself and your laser habits so far and receive your obligatory "Welcome"s and "Read this thread!"s and "Always use protection!"s.
