Has anyone here have any experience with the Lyra series from LaserGlow? How bright is the laser, and does it really make a difference from the cheap laser pointer sites like DX? I hear you can see the beam at night, but how well?

- he sells WLASER lasers to the LPF members, they should be overspec according Daguin´s and sandidgepatrick´s reviews

You won´t buy a LYRA cause of it´s brightness. People usually purchase one cause it is NOT stronger than 5mW (for presenations) and cause of it´s great built quality and design.

DJNY summed that up well. Another reason is general performance; aside from quality, a CNI manufactured laser will also have more stable output, better beam quality with less scatter, more reliability, and a stable operation mode without hopping. A Lyra will also have a longer lifetime than cheaper lasers, but it isn't available more powerful than 4.9mW.

You really need to be more specific, because CNI makes many designs, and you can find them for different prices. I would look around for a CNI group buy, look at the catalog, and see what the price is for the laser you want.

So which green laser would you guys recommend where you can see the beam at night, but have it not be powerful enough to cause any damage? I mean, is the Lyra good at doing that, or would you guys recommend another one?

I would recommend you the Lyra.

For this <5mW laser your winking reflex would be quick enough to safe your retina from any damage. But beware, some humans wink reflex is too bad, especially the one from children.

5mW of 532nm is enough to see the laser beam in the dark, especially when there is enough humidity/dust/steam/fog in the air.

The Lyra is completely safe even for looking into the laser. If you want a laser that you can safely look at the dot of, and you can be careful not to shine/reflect it into somebody's eye, you can go up to 30mW. I use my 125mW outside without goggles, and in areas where I know there's no chance of reflections.

i just bought the true green 5mw green laser from DX for $9.69 and i've seen videos where i can take out the module and switch it with a 200mw module. the 200mw one is around $50. i was wondering (since i saw that you said that DX's 50-100mw lasers were way off on output) will the 200mw one also be way off on output? if so, how much output power might i expect from it? also, what is the difference between a green laser and a true green laser?

The 5mW modules rarely exceed 50-60mW, from what I've seen. According to styropyro (a trusted member), the 200mW modules usually output 100-150mW. Source: YouTube - DIY: How to Modify a Green Laser Pointer into a Burning Laser

None of us really know, but the true is more expensive, and I once saw that somebody got a true 50mW less powerful than the normal version! So just stick to the normal version, unless only the true is sold.
