im trying to make a green laser vortex (for halloween) the laser pointer i tried did work a while but i need one with a on off switch....i wasnt sure how long you can leave one of these things on or if they will burn up.... if anybody knows of one with a on off switch that can stay on for a while (maybe AA batterys instead of AAA) i would appreciate the help...

I know it is not exactly an answer to your question but.....
You can use a cable tie to hold the button down, make sure it is not too tight though as it may damage the switch. For longer lasting power I have done away with the batteries and use a 12v to 3v regulated supply all powered from a car battery.

The laser I am using is a DX10mw, it dims after a while (when it warms up) but seems happy with long term use.

Hope that helps

im looking to make 2 or 3 of these things ...need them portable so i can move them around if the fog shifts on me....i was thinking about a "oust" fan for the motor, they run on 1 d cell and spin about right i think,.... while looking around i found some "laser modules" that look like they might work better for me..... can i assume that they only need a battery pack to work or is there more to it? or do they need to be in a housing of some kind, and i wonder if they can be left on contionus....if anybody knows..
