I bought a cheap green laser mostly to take apart and see the inner workings. Well today i tried to turn it on and it didnt come on. I looked in the endand a small red light cameout, thats it. Is it broken already? It was like 8 bucks so im not that upset if it is it was mostly a laser to take apart anyways. But is that fixable?

From the Green Laser FAQ:

Q: Why, after my DPSS laser suddenly stopped working, do I see just a dim red light coming from the aperture?

A: DO NOT LOOK INTO THE APERTURE!!!!!!! This dim red light is actually being produced by an extremely powerful infrared laser. Since IR light is invisible, all we can see is the dim red light. Don't be fooled by the dimness, even in a 5mW DPSS laser the IR output is guaranteed to be at least 200mW, which is more than enough to fry your eyes. The reason that you can see this is because some of the internal parts of the laser have gone out of alignment..

So if you're able to realign the crystals (sorry, couldn't walk you through that), then you can probably get it to work again. But don't look in the aperture again.

how would i go about realigning them? Does it take alot of advanced knowledge and gear?

I'm not sure. I don't even own a green laser at the moment, so I'm not sure if it's even possible. Should be though.

Try searching around a bit. The "Do it yourself complete green DPSS with O-like crystals" thread might help. It's stickied in the green forum.

From what i saw that guide is a building lasers type thing i think. But this laser was like 8 bucks so im not upset about it i just ordered a 50mw green and am planning on getting the dragon laser 1w 445nm blue so this cheap laser was kind of just to open. In case i do decide to makemy own. Thanks tho.
