Green laser power drop after a drop

Hi!

Yesterday I unfortunately dropped my 500mW laser pointer head (I was removing the battery) on the ground from a distance of 1m. Now, instead of 500mW, their output power is not more than 3mW (aproximately).

I already checked the lenses and the crystal assembly and everything feels ok.

My laser have warranty of 90 days, I will return it to the warranty but I wanna know, what might have happened with my laser?

Thanks!

:cryyy: :cryyy: :cryyy:

I highly doubt it was anywhere close to 500mW to start with, but you probably knocked your crystals out of alignment. Refund is the best route, get a quality laser

Yes, I know about the quality vs. power vs. price.

I have no more money to spend with lasers :( so I will return it to the warranty anyway.

I did a test with the crystals, I turn the laser on and with a pin, nudged the crystals and the power output growed up a bit, confirming misalignment of the crystals :cryyy:

Beware with the IR light coming out from the diode.

Here you can have some info about DPSS, in case the manufacturer don't want to refund you...

Here

The first pic (from Sam's LSRFAQ) makes me think that proper rotation is needed for the power to increase...

Yes, have a lot of IR light going out of the diode, I look it with my cell phone camera.

I'll read the link you said. When I have more information I'll keep you updated.

Thanks.

A little question. How I can protect my laser from being dropped? Maybe some silicone layer, any suggestion?

What is TEM00 and TEM01? I think the misalignment happened because I let it drop, this laser always used to be cold, including the laser/crystals/lenses assembly.

I doubt it's a TEM00-TEM01 problem... that's when the laser dot goes from one nice circle to two close circles side by side. Search wikipedia for transverse mode (TM) and you'll see pics of what I mean for both TM and TEM.

If you've dropped the laser, it is almost certainly a misalignment issue
