Any laser is dangerous (unless <300uW) so beware anyways. Probably not 300mW (for $10). :)

With a lag of information pics we can't give you much of an answer.
A sticker doesn't say anything.
300 mW will for sure burn so if it does not burn black paper it's not 300 mW

I think he^^^ means lack of info and he means that the sticker info may not be accurate. This lasers burning abilities may be better if it is focused for the smallest spot/dot at say one foot or so then try it on any black object- a CD case of often used. if this laser cannot be focused then find the distance which makes the smallest dot and try burning from that distance. The laser needs to be held firmly in one spot , by moving it around you may not get it to burn.

The symbols < and > mean less than and more than.

so a laser that is 50mWs IS less than(<) 300mWs as is anyting from 1 mW to 299mWs. and it is very true that almost any laser can be harmful to your eyes from direct or reflected beam. You can get glasses that will offer some protection from almlost all the wavelenghts(colors) for around $10.
The high quality glasses/goggles can cost over $100. you eyes however are priceless. So please be extra careful.

Also many cheap lasers make IR which is nearly invisible to your eyes and is one of the most harmful. The more expensive green lasers have IR filters in them.

hope my post has been helpful

If it cost 10$ and doesn't burn it's just your typical over-spec "5mW", meaning
30mW at most, green and IR combined.

Not much, but still moderately dangerous if you take a direct hit in the eye.

No reason to throw it away though!
