Green laser now IR

I was just waving around my 5mW green laser, as always, and for no reason, it just broke. I think the crystal came out of alignment because it will switch between green and IR, fading in and out at random. I have had it for two months with no problems. I don't want to buy another one, because I would rather not spend money unless it is necessary, so is there any way I can fix this problem or should I just contact the seller and request another one?

Sounds like an alignment problem, contact the seller for a replacement. Your better off not trying to open it up.

It works again! No clue why, or why it was alternating between green and IR, seeing as this has never happened before. Well whatever. It's working now, and I'm really happy.

This brought up a serious question, though: how much IR are these things actually putting out? My eyes feel a little sore now, and that's never been a problem in the past few days. Maybe it's the IR exposure. It's probably just imaginary, but it does bring to mind a serious issue.

I will probably send out my blu-ray to be tested for power once I have it built, and I might as well send this one too. That should give an approximation. If it's too bad, I would probably pay that person, whoever it might be, to install an IR filter. Nova charges a lot for shipping, so if anyone has an IR filter and a laser power meter laying around, I would gladly pay for shipping both ways and the cost of the filter. (Currently I'm thinking of daguin, jayrob, and Zom-B, because they all seem to be extremely resourceful and have a lot of cool stuff.)

What kind of laser is the 5mW? (newwish, leadlight, etc.?) Can you remove the end? How big is the aperture? I have one 1/8 x 1/8 inch IR filter here.

Peace,

It's a New Wish pointer, it unscrews into two halves. One has the batteries, and the other has the rest of the laser. The aperture is pretty small, not sure exactly how much though. A 1/8 x 1/8 inch would probably fit it fine. Would I need it? I'm not really sure.

Thanks,
Mark
