Hello, I have had a set of 20k galvos (with show card), a red laser pointer diode, and a green laser module laying around for some time and finally got a chance to put everything together but I have run into a snag.

To power the lasers I used a LM317 set at 3.05V and a TIP120 on the gnd side to allow the show card to control the lasers. This works beautifully for the red laser but not for the green. If I ground out the green long enough for it to come on to full power it will work for a while then fade out. Is there another way I can control this laser module or should it just go back into the parts bin? Here is the information I have on it:
Green Laser Module
532nm
<5mw
3.0V DC
<280ma

I believe this is the module (I bought it long before I found this site) : DGM512-D001 5mW APC Green Laser Module Dot Laser Module - Laser Modules

-Thanks

That module was probably made for a pointer. DPSS lasers often have trouble modulating, and you usually have to buy one one specifically for modulation if that's your plan.
Check with a scope to make sure it's not the driver, and if not then you know it's definitely the module.

If it's fading out, it sounds like it's out of thermal range (i.e. overheating/too cold.)

OK that is what I was afraid of. I guess will have to hold off on a green laser until I have the money to buy a good one (one that can be modulated).

Too bad because it seems like a really powerful module

You may be able to get it to work if you heatsink the green module.

Tip: Don't buy the budget CNI modules. I've had awful experiences with a couple of the cheap ones.

I think the laser is too cold, because If I bypass the transistor, it lights fine, but all the drawn shapes are connected.

I see this company is on the list of risky places to buy, How does this laser look?

That looks decent, though I haven't seen any information on them outside of the ebay listing, so I'm only basing this on what I see there.
