Well benm, the one shown, has a kinda rubber coating on the outside and is heavy for it's size.
And has no lanyard. It's my favorite "out of the box" laser so far.

I saw that a company called BeamQ has a 200mw laser for $150 but I am not sure of the company's reliability.

There are a couple of very similar designs, all feel heavy for their size.
I have two of them, one with and one without the lanyard(hole). The one without performs better, and also has the pot like in your photo. I is manufactured by a company called SXD - both according to the package it came in an a sticker on the laser module inside. It came in a blister pack, the sticker inside is visible if you unscrew the laser module from the front part of the housing (its just thread, no brute force required).

I believe it is this one: http://www.made-in-china.com/showro...KxqyngVA/China-Green-Laser-Pointer-3095-.html
and it does come in various power ratings (though i've only seen the 50 mW sold online so far).

Found it on their website too: http://www.chinasxd.cn/English/ProductView.asp?ID=85&SortID=10
Blister package displayed is identical, so that must be it.

They seem to have a interesting range of laser products, but no prices on the website or retail addresses :(

Well, off to a bad start on THIS order, I recieved THIS as their "200mW" today:

SZW200_2346.jpg

No time to test the others until later (and believe me,I WILL test them because I am point blank NOT paying for this one, at least - or ANY of them that are under 140mW) ...

On the upside, the 50mW "star" pointers I checked (fast LCD only, no graphs) were all at 50-60mW settled except 2, one was 78mW and one was 38mW - out of 10 of these, I can live with 1 underspec.

Gotta run to work for a bit - I'll have more pics and test results later tonight!

EDIT/ADDITION: On the way out the door I figured I'd open this thing and see that all the connections were tight, etc before I got pissed and to my surprise (not really) it's a slightly different host internally AND there is a SXD manufacturer sticker right on the module that reads "80mW" handwritten! Needless to say, this is NOT making me less pissed...

Darm you BCM..lol

Why did you go and show me that pic,now i had to take a secound look inside of mine, and with a little bit of effort i got the modale out to look.

Guess what... (yep that's right)
I wounder about that POT..hummm. I can still light a match, burn etc. like it's running around 110-120Mw and i know if it was 80Mw or less then it wouldn't burn like it does.

Well, this one reads a solid steady 80mW on the Laserbee, so the sticker isn't so far off...

FTR, the other sku# 2346 I have is actually a slightly different host (as mentioned above) and an entirely different style of module - peaks around 118mW and runs steady at 108mW.

I'm planning on doing an entire "Companies" thread regarding this (and other) orders I have placed from SZWholesale including their service and detailed LPM graphs and reviews on their lasers (now that I have worked with them for awhile) - I just want to see how they're going to handle this mess first though, 200mW does NOT equal 80mW (or 118mW, for that matter) in my book...

that would rock :D

Flameboy: The drawback to those modules is there is no readily available host for them (they are not compatible with the standard 12mm hosts most low-powered lasers use) - John Lawson ended up with over $75 plus other expenses and hassles trying to get one of those modules going, IIRC, best to purchase the mid-powered stuff like that already assembled and running.

Thanks for sharing the idea, though!

LMAO - good point, Pianoman!!!!

There was a thread awhile back RE: someone doing just that (designing and building a host for these modules) but IIRC it just sorta petered out because of the so-so beam quality and divergence of these modules as a rule (too much effort for too little return) ...

Back to the cheapies at hand, though - I DO have to say one good thing about this bad one I recieved at 80mW, the beam is really, REALLY nice, far better than almost any of the 100mW-ish Chinese pointers I've seen, which at last count is well over 100 so there's that...

Ya, the beam is quite nice i love it for show and (doint tell the MW).
Now BCM ? the one you had that you burned a match with, was the older style 2346 ?
Would you be so kind as to show me what that mod look's like? I realy would like to take a lQQk.
(A pic of it )

EDIT/ADD:- Brew you got right about 80Mw with that laser. and you use 3.6v juice. So i wounder what it put's out with the cr2 it came with.?

Speaking of bumping the price up to $300, you could get a CNI 532nm 200mW handheld. They seem like a high quality company.

I have the exact same SXD module in one of my lasers, including the hardwritten sticker, though i can't make out what it actually says. I bought it labeled as 50 mW, and it puts out a bit over 60. It was on DX, but they don't carry this model anymore... they have one that looks identical in their pics, but people that ordered that one were dissapointed.

If it has the same driver board too, you can find a little pot that can be used to change diode current... but if sxd rated it as 80, and it produces 80, its not likely it can be turned up (much) further without risking damage.
