Thank you all for the help. I will make an introductory thread. I did read the safety information.

I didn't understand much of the technical discussion, but my take away is that it is not really possible to have a single green laser with variable power output and that the one I found for sale is probably making claims that are not legitimate.

So I guess it will be two lasers for me!

Survd, the laser you linked is legitimate. Pretty sure a few members on here got them a while back from laserBTB. The discussion just got overly technical. The issue is that the power level likely isn't all that reliable if you want to be certain it's eye safe. That is however, your only option for now if you really want a dual power laser. Just get it from the site I linked since they're still active.

Otherwise, multiple lasers works too. :D

YOU WILL SPEND $3USD for your low power BUT it will likley be more than 5mW== those are hard to find and $$$ I have one that makes exactly 4.9mW and cost$140. I only use it for calibration of LPMs. A 6$ or 7$ 301 or 305 532nm would likely be 60 to 100 mW.. ..
Get glasses for green lasers (at least)
FIRST..not second.
PLEASE fill in your PROFILE-- Where you are makes a huge diff..

WELCOME and enjoy LPF... hak

Thanks @Rivem -- I was on a mobile device earlier and didn't see that you had provided an actual link. I followed it and already bought it....thanks!

If there is a feedback diode in there, you -could- build a circuit that uses that to limit power to a specific value.

You would need to be pretty versed in electronic circuit design to actually do that though, unless drivers with such features are easily available (i doubt that).

The feedback photodiodes were pretty common in the past, but now many laser diodes still have 3 pins, but only 2 are used and connected to the die, while the other is just connected to the case. There are numerious examples of such diodes, and they are great for builds since you do not have to worry about the mechanical construction shorting things out... but they did lose the feedback mechanism on the way there.

Give us a review and some photos when you get it!
