Green Lantern

anyone remember when they used to sell cheap red laser pointers they came with heads that projected different shapes.

How does that work?

The reason is i want to make one of those heads for my green laser, so it can project a green lantern symbol.

i don't think you can make them by yourself, as they involve tiny little etchings which reflect the laser into a shape.

aww,

i really hoped to make a green lantern. Thats i couldn't find any pictures of green laser projection (but i did find one on accident) looks pretty cool.

They don't screw on directly but you can still use them on green pointers ok with a bit of blu-tack

No bluetac? Use gum, I'm gonna take some pics of the ones i have with my dx 30 and upload them if this crummy laptop recognises my camera

I'm pretty sure that picture is from an XY laser scanner, not a type of diffraction grating. I could be wrong though, as I'm pretty noobish with lasers compared to the rest of the folks here on the board.

They have a lot more spray and the image is smaller, but yes - they work.

Agree with BG on that one, I have seen that as a scanner output.
I had some of these caps around somewhere, I must find them and give this a try.

some people on laserchat was asking this, and someone replied that some places do do custom diffraction gratings to project custom logos/shapes. not sure what it would cost, or where to find them, though.

oOo sounds interesting, a place like that could make quit a bit of money doing that expecially since the ones that comes with the red laser pointers are heads that nobody would want. I mean who would want to project a heart or a arrow or a duck? A green Lantern symbol projected by a green laser is the way to go

i'd like a heart! but then, i'm a girly girl, and this forum is mostly guys so i guess i'm outnumbered hehe... the smiley face cap that i have is fun, i've shone a 112mW green through it before and projected a giant smiley face onto the clouds at night
