"GREEN ECLIPSE"

Hi guys, here are some photo's, and some brief descriptions of what I'd guess you would call a "novelty" laser that I've slowly put together in my spare time.
This was a "just for the fun of it" project, no high power burning diodes, or exotic polished hosts here!
There have been many unique items used to house lasers in the past, this is my version. I've used an "Eclipse" mints tin, in matching green of course!
This minty laser is based around a (New Wish "5mW" 5v. module) from Fasttech. It puts out about 54mW out of the box, with no tweaking of the pot.

ALSO INCLUDED IN THE BUILD ARE:

  • "AA" Battery holder (Fasttech)
  • 14500 3.7v. Li-ion Battery (Fasttech)
  • Homemade aluminum heatsink, nose piece, & pushbutton extension
  • GITD O-rings (lighthound)
  • GITD powder ("NickDO70" at innovative lasers)
  • Velcro, to hold battery holder down

This is all the bits and pieces, minus the battery and GITD O-rings.

I epoxied the driver to the rear of the module, to help keep it from flexing when the button is pushed.

This is the pushbutton extension I made, it has a tiny dimple in the top for the GITD powder. this little thing was a PITA to make!

Rear of H.S. with installed module and button extension. The 2mm screw is to hold the H.S. to the tin.

Well, thats all folks! :D

Thanks for taking a look.

Thanks DrMario, I thought it was a little bit different also.

BTW - You want a mint?

ill take one. how many times will my money bounce of my screen? reminds me of my first build. mine was a 532 in an altoids. great build! +1

Thank you gentlemen for the kind words!

@ cantthinkofone - I'm having the same problem on this end, damn mints won't go through either.
I seem to be doing my builds ass backwards, my first was a 2.8W 445, now I'm doing 50mW candy tins. Oh well.

@ Flaminpyro - That's what I thought also, just something to do that's a little on the less serious side.

Well..... maybe a little crazy now and then.
Actually, lunatic is probably not far off the mark! :D

Thanks ped!

Know it's old but I never saw this. Way to think "out of the box/in the box/tin" :) Think you made this when I was really sick in the hospital

Idea being stolen in 3.. 2.. 1..

I have millions of these tins laying around and those fasttech modules are cheeeeap.

Hey Pman, thanks for the comments. I've been looking at this "Green Eclipse" thread all day in the "latest posts" section, and thinking to myself why does that thread look so familiar, so just now I thought I'd take a look at it, and it's my own damn thread!
BTW - I wasn't trying to think outside of the box as much as, only how to get everything "inside" of the box.

3Pig, I forgot to mention that I got that design patented, so no copying! Just kidding, that's why it's posted, so everyone take ideas from it and put their own personal twist on it.
I'll be Looking forward to seeing the new 3Pig model coming soon! :D

Probably an easier build also. Somebody's Altoid build is probably where I got this idea from. I liked the Eclipse tin because it's green and looks good with the 532nm beam.
IIRC, the Altoids tins have a large top that opens, rather than the smaller end opening of the Eclipse tins.
This style tin is a PITA to change the battery, since the holder is velcroed down to keep it from moving around.

Would definitely say the Altoids would be easier and maybe a better choice for someones first try. The Wintergreen tin is blue rather than green :(

I give your credit for that push button extension. They are a PITA for some reason and you managed to make something pretty neat.
