Great 18650 host, but a bad diode. Looking to replace Diode

I have purchased a 50mW 532nm laser from Chinavasion. Heres the link:

Mega Power Green Laser Pointer (50mW Edition)

Anyway, its been about a week and the diode burnt out. I was very disappointed because this was my favorite laser. Not because its a 50mW, but because the build quality was extremely well. It just feels very sturdy and solid.

Anyway, I like the host so much, that i'm willing to replace the laser modulemodule with a new one

Here are some personal pic's of the laser

(sorry for blurry pics, their from phone)

This would be my first time customizing/building a laser. I'm looking for a LEGIT 200mW. Does anyone know how efficient DealExtreme's 200mW is? I know that their 200mW lasers pointers aren't nearly to spec, but are their modules? Also, how would I remove the diode/module from the heat sink? I'm afraid I might damage the threads on the inside. And are the threads on a diode/module universal? Thanks....

I often wondering what are the reasons to make it so HUGE for those small power lasers?
Aren't they really PORTABLE?

DX 200mW modules suck. Go with the 200mW O-like module that doesn't look like the DX module (old style).

A 200mW DX module with not be 200mW, you'd be better of getting an O-like 150mW module which will probably be over spec. But definitely at least 150mW.

The DX module is probably only around 100mW-130mW.

I believe when Jayrob tested the DX one he found it stable at around 70 to 80mW. But that was after tweaking the pot a bit. It was quite a bit weaker than what it was advertised at...

I have owned a few O-like 150mW modules. My first did 140+mW and had average divergence. The one I have now does 180mW peak unfiltered, 165mW peak filtered, and 140mW average. Pretty good for a 130-150mW rated module. The only con is that divergence is a bit too much for my taste. But the beam diameter is very small and it does burn well close up.

I will be getting a 200mW from O-like soon and I plan on selling this 150mW module. If you are interested I can sell you this one for $5 off it's original price + shipping... probably within the next week. Also, I already bypassed the switch and put some heat-sinking on the driver so everything stays nice and cool. So it's all ready to go for your host. I actually just bought it. It has about 10 min of usage on it.

I'm not sure... You'll have to take measurements of your host and compare them to what size the module comes in.

BTW, did you get my pm yesterday?

Yeah, dude idk....... thats alot of money. I think im going to pass if im going to build my own...

I'm very interested. I go to work in Corona. If I buy it can you help me put it in? I've never built my own before and I would love to get started...

From the looks of it, all you would need to do is push the 50mW module out of the aluminum ring and slide the new module in and put it all back together. If you do have trouble I wouldn't mind helping out.

The diode and driver could be destroyed for all I care. My only concern is that the heat sink (I think that's what it is) is threaded and I dont want to rip out the threads. And yeah, that'd be great if you helped me.

Ok. Well I'll shoot you a PM when I've got more time. I'm a little busy at the moment.
